I'm needing to order a recoil lug quick for my build but my barrel and receiver are blued but the only thing I can find is stainless in the thicker version

Brownells has them just bought one for me 22br build but won't work if your keeping the barrel nut

Its AMAZING what a BLACK SHARPIE will do and how long it will last...also I think you can find a real BLUEING pen in most gun stores to touch up...
I don't do half assed jobs and that's what the sharpie is. I've never used a blueing pen before but it's a moot point I bought a 4140 steel one from Pacific tool and gauge. I'll just blue it when I get it
Nothing half assed about it...you expressed a concern that you could only find SS...its simply cosmetics...SS will not rust anyway...I offered a viable work around that got you shooting...Other products such as Alumahyde, DuraCoat, CeraCoat would work too, it is just a Savage right
...so let me get this straight...your going to fire up a bluing tank for a recoil lug...I only ask because cold bluing that part would surely be a HALF ASSED way to do it...have a nice day...BTW I own a few Savages too...

HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE WILL PAY FOR A CUSTOM RIFLE THAT HAS BEEN COLD BLUED OVER HOT? HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE WOULD TAKE THEIR PRECIOUS FIREARM TO A SMITH WHO TOLD THEM COLD BLUING WAS TIER ONE?

On top of that, the cold blued part is going to stick out like a sore thumb against the factory hot blued receiver and barrel...

I would definitely pick a hot blue over a cold blue my point was taking a sharpie to the piece over any type of blueing would be retarded. Ask yourself this if you went to go pick up your rifle from the gun smith and he said "well I can't blue whatever part so I just went over it with a sharpie" would you accept that? No I think not.
I have cold blue and a bead blaster at the house yo match the texture of the factory finish at the house and I've seen many guns with cold blue applied that look just fine. This is going to be such a small part I really don't think you will notice the color much; and if I do guess what to the gunsmith it good to be hot blued that easy.
I've ordered the part anyways so I'm done with the thread Mr. Keyboard Commando.

I said what I wanted to say...I offered a quick fix for your Savage...you slandered...I simply pointed out YOUR cold bluing was as half assed as mine was, maybe even more so due to the level of work involved...pot calling the kettle black...done too...
BTW...next time you nick or scratch a blued gun...grab a black Sharpie...alcohol. acetone or a solvent is just about the only thing that will take it off...

Alternatively you could hot blue it on your outdoor grill using some drain out crystals. Available at Walmart for about 6 bucks. Use precautions, I'm not responsible etc.

I've done it and it works. Blued a few random things and a knife blade just to see how it worked. It's dangerous but effective.

Funny as hell............................I read this thread yesterday and had nothing of value to offer. Today, I happened to stop by Cabelas in hopes of snagging some H4350 (no luck) but I happened to see in the gun maintenance section next to the Casey cold blue.........................."gun touch-up".........and guess what it was...........a sharpie! LMAO!
