Gunsmithing Where to get bolt knob installed?

Looking to get a Badger or TacOps bolt knob for my 700 SPS Tactical soon. I don't want to attempt to install it myself and I'm not sure I trust my local gunsmith to do it. Who will do this service for me for a reasonable price and decent turnaround time?

I had a stock Rem 700 action where the cam on the bolt was not making contact with the cam on the rear of the receiver. This made extracting a case from the chamber difficult since there was very little mechanical leverage being used in the extraction process. The solution is in Fairbanks, AK with Dan at Accu-tig.com. I learned that most Rem bolt handles are not placed on the bolt with much precision at all and Dan has tig welded over 5000 new bolt handles onto remington bolts. I took a measurement with a feeler gage and mailed the bolt to Dan in Fairbanks. He knocked the stock bolt handle off and tig welded a PTG short straight handle on the bolt moving it back from its original location 0.031". The result was like a whole different action, the workmanship was incredible and the bolt handle is now tig welded on as opposed to silver soldered from the factory. The other plus is that the cost of all this was cheaper than most most will charge just to install a tac bolt knob on a remington bolt. I believe Dan charged $40 labor, $35 for the PTG bolt handle and it was about $10 each way to mail it. So for $95 I had a precisely aligned bolt handle that came threaded and just put my own Badger knob on it.

You could always go to the hardware store and buy a bolt then take it to a welding shop in your area have them cut your forged knob off and the head of the bolt you just purchased then tig weld it on then just screw your knob of choice on.

op..you may want to try to get your hands on a couple of different knobs(boy that don't sound good at all!)and make sure that a
badger or tac ops handle is comfy before you go with one.i was behind a gap with a badger and my knuckle keep hitting
it and was a little annoying, ymmv .and for install another vote for SAC.he also installs apa bolt knobs not as big but very user friendly.

Phoenix, short action customs, or any of the other's mentioned already would do a great job. It's no big deal to ship your bolt to anyone of these guys for the work. The majority of these guys have a one week to two-week turnaround time on a job like that.

1. NOWHERE in either of group buys that I'm sponsoring does it say ANYTHING about bolt knobs being done on a Savage. Your lack of reading comprehension is not my problem. You even stated yourself that you misread it. I did ONE Winchester. Thats it!

2. YOUR group buy form filled out by YOUR own hand CLEARLY states that under NO circumstance is black to be used. The micro slick I have is Ceracoat P109 and its as black as a well diggers ass. SO per YOUR group buy form your bolt was coated in Tungsten grey. It was applied perfectly. There are no runs, no scratches, nothing. Its done right.

3. Your overpayment because you DIDNT read the damn GB announcement has been reumburst in full. A check is enroute. It was sent the following day.

4. Your helical flutes are spot on. They are free of chatter and/or tool marks.

5. I stated to you on the phone that I would give you a break if/when we ever do a GB for Savage owners. Understand you just blew that option with this childish stunt. Take your business somewhere else.

6. TO DATE YOU are the only member of Snipers Hide whos erroneously sent us a SAVAGE bolt to have a knob installed and then acted like a total Nancy when they are politely told weve never offered it.

AGAIN. YOU ADMITTED THAT YOU MADE A BOLD ASSUMPTION AND FAILED TO ACTUALLY READ THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

It begs the question:

I would go with any of the Smiths being mentioned in this thread, but I did go to Phoenix Custom Rifles for my bolt-knob. I chose him because he is local, does great work, and got it done in the time-frame that I needed it done in! His work is great, and he is a pleasure to do business with.

I sent mine to Ga-precision they did an awesome job. All of the work I have seen from chad dixon here on the hide has been top notch as well. Nice how people make a mistake and want to blame someone else.
