Just saw netflix is making a "dark crystal" series. This movie was a big part of my childhood along with goonies, laberynth, the orginal star wars series, and silverado. We had vhs and laserdisc, raise your hand if know what those are, dad worked at xerox and was kind of a techy. Commador 64 computers and games baby. We lived out in the sticks and didn't have cable so the 3 channels we did get had very little to watch durring those rainy days. Nice days were spent out in the woods "exploring" which ment getting lost till we found a road we recognized and found our way back.

Looked at the trailer for dark crystal and appears they found a closet with all the old puppets and are using them in this new series. Some cgi background and action stuff but mostly puppets. Loved that movie and look forward to the new series and them keeping with the original style.

I’m definitely 80’s raised. Unfortunately we had an Intellivision instead of Atari (it was the nerds version, more techie), so I couldn’t borrow games from anyone else. We also had Beta before VHS. I’ll admit that I have no idea what Dark Crystal was. I know and loved most of the other you mentioned, except Laberynth which was hella ghey.

Was intellavision the one with the tv remote looking controller with the button info sleeves you had to switch out for each game? My cousin had that one if that is it.

I also grew up in the same period and in the sticks although my parents refused to buy us 2 older boys electronics. My brother later in life said that there was nothing to do but shoot shit and touch yourself. I was a much better shot than him hahaha

Goonies is one of the most wonderful movies of all time. My sisters used to make me do the truffle shuffle. It was awful but good memories haha.

We used to have BBQs with the entire neighborhood. All the kids played and got along. We were allowed to have fireworks on 4th of July.
Now it seems neighbors don't know each other. Kids are too busy chatting on their phones to talk to each other. It's such a different world.

I remember one of my friends had Leisure Suit Larry and every time we played it we felt like we were "being bad"

Here's an online copy of Oregon Trail for old time's sake.

Atari 800, NES and the Game Genie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, BB gun wars.

Little league baseball occupied many of my summers, as well as the local swimming pool. And when we weren't doing that we rode our bikes to the nearest fishing hole and caught whatever bit the hook. I also remember my dad working on his vehicles in the driveway and neighbors coming over to see what was going on.

We had oregan trail, 4th and inches (play action pass was a touch down every time) and a pirate game that I can't remeber the name of but it was probably one of the first open world style games. Came with 10 floppy discs and took forever to load.

Just looked it up and was named "pirates." Had sword duels on deck, ports to attack, open sea battles.

Hell, ya'll are young. I remember when Pong first came out. It was quite the rage, in itself. Years later, I was given an Atari 5200 where everyone else was happy with their 2600. Those two extra switches opened universes. (or so's I'm told). HA.

Neighbor was the first to get the Commodore Vic 20 with 3k of memory. A whole "three Kay".... you could write the history of man with that that thing. Or so they thought. Yeah, then the 80's arrived. HA.
We need the REAL saturday morning cartoons back, as well as the neighborhood block=parties,,, and get back to civilization. Park the phones at home, or leave 'em in the basket by the door.

Time Bandits!

I barley remember the Dark Crystal, but the others very well. You forgot the Never Ending Story, Gremlins and Conan. Time Bandits was greatness. Oh and I had the Atari 2700 and Pong. Pong sucked. Dig Dug and Missal Command for the win.

That stuff was our Daughter's TV.

Mine was Mickey Mouse Club, Whirlybirds, Navy Log, Tom Corbett Space Cadet, Have Gun, Will Travel, Wanted Dead or Alive, Maverick, etc.; all them twenty-some-odd great Westerns.

I was 10 in 1956.

You watch them today and they seem hokey, but back then...

The choices...

liked the original , but understand they have no idea on how to make movies or are unable to come up with new ideas so they ruin old movies quick easy and cheap .

Watched the first episode. Had to look up the time frame for when the netflix series takes place. Apparently 1000 years before the original movie time frame. Not bad, ofcourse the wife says "are you really going to watch this?" Her childhood was bland and overprotected by her parents. She missed out on so much. I have to go back and make her watch old movies to try and relive some of it. She was not impressed by the original dark crystal. Mr. Mom, Army of Darkness, Legend. She just doesn't understand. I have to remind her that the kardashians are trash and need to find away off this earth so she quits watching it when I am not looking.
