I have a mini-fix in 556.

Planning on leaving it that way until a 6mac barrel is hopefully made available. Will be running unsupressed. Planning on using it as a utility gun as designed. Truck gun for random coyotes, thrown in the tractor when helping my Uncle hay his fields this summer.

Currently I have a sightron s-tac 3-16 on it. For the money the scope is great but it’s a little long.

I’m thinking a 2-10 would be perfect for the role.

It’s 10x so not overly concerned about sfp vs FFP.

Since they are running about the same price point, would you go NF 2.5-10 NXS, or the Leupold Mark 5 2-10?

I was looking at the the Steiner hx6i, but I want a simple reticle with mils. For this gun I don’t need a Christmas tree to clutter.

Both are in the same size and weight range.

I’m not looking to add a ton of weight to a very light weight utility rifle. I just want a rugged, clear, high quality piece of glass..that’s smaller than the stac at 13 inches long, and 24 oz.

Sounds like it will be a handy little rifle.
You could shave some more weight going with a 1" tube 3-9 or 2-10 but the two you listed are nice optics.

MK5 2-10 seems like a nice all around lpvo and sounds like it would fit your needs

i like nightforce scopes but would take the mk5 over an nxs most any day of the week

I have been less than impressed with the 1-10 optical clarity that I have seen.

The no free lunch becomes really apparent in the 1-10’s.

I have stacks upon stacks of dead coyotes that say you don't need parallax adjustment on a 10x max scope.
I will agree that the reticle is less than great for sure. I don't operate at 10 that much unless I'm doing sighting, scouting, or DOPE confirmation though, so it doesn't matter (FFP scope).

I appreciate the review, my thought is if I’m going to loose 6x mag, for 1.5 oz less weight, and .3 inch less length…I want a scope that has everything I am looking for.

The mark 4 just seems like a lateral move from what I already have.

Can you give me a quick review…for a scope that’s been out since 2013 there are very few reviews about it.

I had one of the x32 versions and loved it, however I found the light transmission to be lacking at dusk, and I could never get the image crystal clear to the edge at 10x, so I sold it….they came out with the x42 mode the next year, and I’ve never seen one to compare. Is setting the diopter really the big pain in the ass people talk about? I’m also curious about the AO, and the 42mm light transmission.

I've ran the ATACR 4-16x42, NX8 2.5-20, MK5HD 3.6-18, bushnell DMR 2i, Vortex LRH 3-15, Leupold VX5HD 2-10 and 3-15. Various 1" scopes.

The NXS just is well rounded for field work. I've shot game from 10yds to 500'ish. It's been rock solid and has yet to be knocked off zero. The size is nice as well.

have to agree there on the paralax for lower power. i have a leupy v6 2-12 on a LWRC IC and can hit my 12” steel plate at 550yds every time….if the wind is calm. haha

I had a NXS 2.5-10x32 and I also noticed dimming above 6x. It really want noticable in daylight, but in very early/late light, it was noticable. Obviously more noticeable at 8-10x. I sold it for that reason.

I don't think it was a problem with the scope, just a physics problem. A 10x 32mm scope will be less bright than a 10x 42mm scope. If I were to get another mpvo, it would be the 42mm mark 4 HD or the NXS.

I have the 42mm ATACR, it will be leaps and bounds better than the NXS. The ATACR will have a larger image (due to larger occular objective). The image will have more vibrant colors, better resolution, less CA, it's a big upgrade optically, but it's also a much larger scope.

I have the Delta TItanium 1.5-9x45 and really like it. It is, however, comparatively heavy.

With Leupold, I have been messing with the 2.5-10x42 Mark 4HD (illuminated FFP version) and I have to admit it is really growing on me. It has good depth of field, so lack of side focus is not getting in the way. At 21.5 ounces and 12.5" length, it will save you a little weight and size, but not a huge amount.

If you change your mind on the reticle, Vortex Razor HD-LHT 4.5-22x50 is about the same weight, although a touch longer.

If you want to go shorter, US Optics has a TS-12x 3-12x44 that is under 10 inches and weighs 18 ounces. This basic scope is OEM'ed in China and I have seen it from a couple of other vendors. However, US Optics version seems better built and better QC'ed.

I liked the ATACR 4-16x42 F1. It has better glass and I liked the turret lock. However it is physically large being a 34mm tube. Where I hunt either close (<50yds) or far shots (>300yds), not much in-between. So the 4x on the bottom end is pushing it.

The NXS 2.5-10x42 is just a goldilocks scope. There is something that beats it in every single category. But it does well in enough in everything else to be well rounded.

I have not looked through the 1-10 credo. Just the 1-10 vudu, the vortex 1-10, the March 1-10, and the cheap Sig MSR.

All were found to give up something…thier is no free lunch for the 1-10’s. Either eye box, reticle, clarity at 10x, etc etc…they kinda all suck in some way.

The NXS 2.5-10x42 is just a goldilocks scope. There is something that beats it in every single category. But it does well in enough in everything else to be well rounded.

Recently NF has been hinting on Instagram that they’re re-releasing the NXS 2.5-10x24. They did a limited run in 2015, so may again.

I’m just over here wanting a FFP NXS 2.5-10x42 with the FC-DMx reticle.

Overall I don’t like the reticle. I found the transparent dot to really fuck with my eyes when trying to focus on a target through it. I also found the eye box tight at 10x, and the example I looked though had a fair amount of edge blur at 10x

From 1-8 it’s pretty decent, but thats what I found of most of the 1-10s I have looked through…they are really nice 1-8’s, above 8x they are all kind of meh for a multitude of reasons.

Besides this is going on a lightweight hunting rifle, not an AR. I don’t need 1x, this isn’t a room clearing, speed needing gun.

Lightweight, utility, bolt action hunting rifle that’s legal every where guys…..not an AR.

If I absolutely find myself needing 1x, an RMR can be added for minimal weight.

I’ve spent damn near 6 months examining all this shit, so to have so good knowledge dudes help me sort through this is a big help.

What I found that is so wierd the NF 2.5-10x42 has almost no in depth reviews. There were a few short reviews done at announcement (Frank did one) but no others. They hardly ever come up for sale, So I was hoping to have someone scream “they are terrible, and this is why”….but all I got is, other than it’s SFP, it’s the perfect little do it all scope on the market…and it’s pushing 11 years old.

I’m with others though, would love to see a slightly updated version of it…but when it’s still a sought after scope 11 years later, I’m sure NF is in no big rush to update it.
