Which 22?

Hey All,

Been mulling over my first gun purchase for quite awhile now.. Over the last few weeks I have narrowed my choices down to about 3 main 22's but I am open to any other suggestions if you feel I missed any.

+ Love the thumbhole stock
+ Solid
+ Heavy Barrel
+ Supposedly will 'last me generations'..although its hard to tell if that wasn't just dealer hype, haha.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Cons:</span>
- Savage is a hit or miss (no pun intended) for some people.
- No Iron sights (I like to have options)

<span style="font-weight: bold">Name:</span> CZ 452 American
<span style="font-weight: bold">Price:</span> $545 CAD
<span style="font-weight: bold">Pros:</span>
+ Solid Stock
+ 'Quality' feel

<span style="font-weight: bold">Cons:</span>
- Mediocre initial trigger
- No Iron sight

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Option 3:</span></span>
<span style="font-weight: bold">Name:</span> CZ 452 Full Stock*
<span style="font-weight: bold">Price:</span> $620 CAD
<span style="font-weight: bold">Pros:</span>
+ Solid Stock
+ 'Quality' feel
+ Great look (can't stress that enough)
+ Iron Sights

<span style="font-weight: bold">Cons:</span>
- Mediocre initial trigger
- Price

*The place I go to in Ontario only lists the CZ American model as being held in constant stock but I am willing to order the mark 2 or FS if they are the right choice

I was leaning towards the Mark 2 initially because it is a good 'fathering' weapon supposedly but I have had mixed impressions when dealing with Savage. Plus for a few bucks more (albeit reluctantly) I could look at the CZ line.

Love the look of the CZ 452 FS but I don't want to waste my money if the gun doesn't maintain the same quality as the fabled CZ452 American..


Anyways, any opinions, comments, suggestions? I am still new when it comes to gun ownership so feel free to correct me haha


**PS: I did use the search engine, didn't find any threads that answered my question.. Google seems to be a black hole for information on the CZ452FS

If you are looking for an option with iron sights, there are other models of the CZ 452 that you may be interested in. There's also a 452 Trainer, Lux and Ultra Lux. I had an Ultra Lux, but sold it to fund another project. Now I've got the Trainer.

I personally like the savage. I have heard lots of good things about the cz.
I like to buy american when I can.
Lots of easy mods for the savage
I just cut my barrel down to 16" and did a nice target crown.
Modded the trigger smooth,light and crisp.

I shoot a CZ 453 Varmint. Much better trigger than the 452 with the option of a set trigger if you like that. Most accurate .22 I have shot, shot of the Anschutz I used to compete with.

I'd love a 452FS. I have 3 Savages and they're all fine shooters, If the money was there I'd get the FS-just because I want one.

I'm going to go with the 452 Varmint and drop it into the Manners stock for the CZ. Good glass and have fun shooting

Thanks for the help. I am gonna see about ordering the lux tomorrow. It has the iron sights and a nice wood stock. Might not be as nice as the full stock but i hear fs arent that great.
