I'm gearing up to build a really fun 223 bolt gun. I'm thinking 16" Proof carbon with the lightest, most traditional stock I can get. I havent decided on an action yet, wish more folks would do stocks for the Howa mini!

Anyway, I like the idea of heavy bullets, but I think the reality is that this gun will shoot a lot of off-the-shelf ammo in the 55gr-77gr range since reloading is just a chore of shooting to me, and not all that fun.

My question is, what chamber should I have cut? 223, 223 match, 223 Wylde, 5.56?? And along with that which twist rate? I'm leaning towards a 1:8 223 Wylde since I've had such great luck with that combo in the AR world. But, I've never done a 223 bolt gun before, and I don't want to miss something.

What are your thoughts?

Well if you do go howa get the short action 1500 and not the mini so you can use normal aics mags and stretch the bullets out past mini length restrictions.

Wylde is an easy answer chambering, wyldes come with a .062 free bore almost universally. Id like .030 more free bore personally just to fully max out my aics mag lengths but that hasnt stopped me from building more than one wylde lol

Ive taken my 16" 223 to 1k yards with a 75 eld. Gets 2800 fps

Get it in a 7 twist over the 8 twist just because theres really no harm to it and if you dont then you might be restricted by the 8 twist should you get a wild hare and choose to try something really heavy.
