Don't know if the rimfire section would be better or not but figured this would be the best place for this since it's about the tacticool variety.

I'm looking at the S&W MP15-22, ruger sr22, and rem vtr 597. Out of these which is the most reliable, accurate, & dependable? I want opinons from first hand experience owners of these guns. I'm undecided on which to buy. If there is a better one than what i've list let me know & why.

Thanks,
Brandon

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

I have the S&W M&P 15-22. It will eat any ammo I have tried except Remington Golden Bullets. Federal bulk all the way to CCI Stingers. It also makes a good trainer. Safety, mag release, charge handle, and bolt release are located and function exactly like a regular AR 15. Not as accurate as my 10-22s but plenty accurate.

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

you might want to try a dedicated 22 upper that runs
on an AR-15 LOWER---CK out old posts and see what the
pros use unless it is just for fun (talk to NOMAD)

if for fun I'd get a donor 10/22 and one of the "AR-like"
chassis's

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

Rifle will be used just for fun and hunting small creatures. I have several 22's just not any like these. Would a 10/22 be a better choice to customize for ar like feel and accuracy?

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

+1 on the mp15-22. Have well over 7.5k through mine. As stated excellent trainer. Most ar-15 parts are compatible. It functions, cleans and breaks down just like an AR. The colt version is nothing like a AR. If you do a grip it has the same curve as the sr-25 (magpul makes a pieces for this). Also the rear take down pin detent is held in by the grip, not the buffer tube plate (doesn't have one). Mags are same size. When ammo went sky high I bought one and havn't looked back. It is one of my favorite guns and I have pushing 50,

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

I looked at them and chose the SIG522. Aluminum upper receiver with picatinny rail. Polymer lower with side folding collapsible stock. This uses the plentiful Black Dog magazines. Older versions did not include iron sights. Newer relases have iron sights installed. There is another version that has a two barrel combination with a standard barrel and a heavy barrel.

+1 again. so... +2?

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

I was kinda leaning hard towards the sr22 because of the proven design, seemed more rugged, and the after market parts but you guys are making this hard for me and leaning back to the smith.... Thanks, lol

Keep them coming

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

IF you have an AR platform to work with, I would suggest the Nordic Components upper. The damn thing runs like a top, once you find the ammo it likes but that is the true of most semi-auto .22's.
Plus you can use your lower as is and gain/maintain familiarity of your lower's setup.
Its plenty accurate for me, I can hit pop bottles at 50+ yds all day long with a reflex sight on it. I can only imagine accuracy would improve with a true scope on it.

But if you dont have a lower to play with, I would go with the MP-22, it seemed to me to have the better fit of the .22's I have seen. Although I havent shot one myself.

Just my .02

Re: Which 22lr black rifle

Ruger's SR22 already has the Nordic chassis. 10/22s can be modded to any degree you want.

If you want something like your AR, I guess the SR22 is OK; I have several 10/22s.

In the form of an AR, I feel the choices boil down to the S&W ( light, same manual of arms as an AR, a little flexy); A Sig 522, accurate, reliable, and sturdy; or a milspec .22 AR, either a dedicated upper from CMMG for $350, or a complete gun from $499. These have forged upper and lower receivers, are milspec in all particulars except the buffer tube (alloy rather than plastic is an extra $50 and includes buffer and spring, not needed with .22).

Nordic's .22 upper is being well received, uses the same mags as all of the Atchisson conversions and uppers.

Uppers from TacSol, Spike's Tactical, ATI/Chiappa all appear to work well. $350 and up.

Target quality stuff north of a grand from Compass Lake and Accuracy Speaks.

Run away from the Colt, HK, or SCAR. While technically firearms, they betray strong roots in the airsoft world of toys.

Personally, if you have an AR platform already - I would go with a dedicated AR22 upper. Just swap uppers and you're ready to go. Your AR22 would have the controls in the same place as your "real AR"(s). The only potential "problem" is that NONE of the AR22 uppers' like notched hammers. Re: Which 22lr black rifle

If you have an AR already, I would recommend a Spikes Dedicated upper, I have at least 4K rounds through mine, just took a little work on my trigger, runs 100% now (light primer strikes was the issue).

I have a buddy who has a Sig 522 that has had 1 FTE in 2k rounds, so thats also a good bet.

If you want a dedicated rifle, I would check out CMMG:

I only got to shoot about 30-40 rds. today with the iron sights and it ran like a champ so far. Second pic was after mounting the scope tonight.

Thanks for the advice
