Re: which acog/scope?

Well, I have a TA31 f on my Noveske 6.8, and it works fantastically. I have not really used many different ACOGs but I would think they are all pretty similar. Just pick the magnificaion thay you want and the reticle pattern. I use this rifle for out to 600 yards and it works fantastically for steel targets. I don't hunt with the rifle past 200 though and if I needed a really precise shot done I would use my 5r, not a rifle with an ACOG. It is pretty much just a combat optic.

I suppose you know that they are not a precision optic really. Not to say that they are inaccurate but it is not what you go to for finding out what the tightest group you can shoot is.

What do you plan on doing with it? There are tons of scopes that are good for 300 yards. You don't even need magnification for a lot of purposes at that range.

Re: which acog/scope?

You have asked a very vague question. With some simple research you can find many optics that fit many different roles. Are you looking for ACOG's or higher powered scopes? Is 300-400 yards your max range? will you be hunting, plinking, target shooting? INFO... people need it to correctly answer your question.

Re: which acog/scope?

I also have a TA31 for my 6.8, horseshoe/red dot and really like it. I'm going to put a TA11H 308 on a new 338 fed AR-10 and will be horseshoe. I killed a few caribou last fall with that acog and within 250 yards pretty right on. I did kill one at 550 yards with same acog, but at that distance, the horseshoe was like over bou's antlers. At 100 yards, the red dot is like 8 inches. Those acogs are about the quickest shooting scopes I have ever used. It's pull up bang in one motion, not pull up, cross hairs on target, then bang.

This is untrue. The ACOGs vary quite a bit in terms of physical size, magnification, field of view, eye relief, etc. Simply choosing a magnification and going with it is a good way to wind up with an optic that you don't like. I will say that the 3Xs and 3.5Xs seem to be the most popular because they offer more generous eye relief and a wider eye box than the 4X models. I've owned quite a few ACOGs and almost always find a good 1-4X or 2-10X variable more useful.

The only ACOG that I have left is a little TA44S-10 1.5X that I use as a red dot replacement.

Re: which acog/scope?

Absolutely sample them.
I own the TA11C, TA31, TA31F, and TA55A. Plain and simple, they are combat optics, period.
BAC may or may not work for you, and this should be central to your choice. If you shoot low light, the TA55 is the no-brainer.

Re: which acog/scope?

I have an ACOG TA31H and like it. The horseshoe reticle is fast and the BDC marks are accurate. It's a happy medium between having a red dot or larger scope.
The scope has worked great at hitting steel out to 600yds but I have wished for better precision when pinking clay pigeons at times.
