Which Detachable Magazine

Hello all.

I currently building my Remy 700 AAC SD. Im looking to add a TriggerGuard Detachable Magazine. Ive been reading up on all the different ones out on the market and would like your guys opinions on which ones are better. Im leaning towards the M5 BDM (Badger Detachable Magazine) System as I can send them my stock and they will fit the DM.( my local gunsmith is currently overwelmed and it will take weeks to get done)
As of now, I have the factory stock but Im looking to upgrade to a JAE700 when I can afford it.
Just looking for some advice on the pros/cons on what you guys have come across with the different ones out there.

You are gonna spend half the cost of the JAE for the bottom metal and to inlet the Hogue, you will not recover all of that money back. Put the money away, wait till tax time and get the chassis you want. In the interim, get out and shoot. You can still get some money for the Hogue if it is untouched, folks on the bay buy them up for some reason.

Honestly, if you get the dbm installed, it will be "cool" then you will end up single feeding at the range anyway. Well I speak for myself, but sure others may agree.

I currently single feed my AAC SD at the range also. I have been looking at DBM systems for mine also but I agree with what was said above and save your money and don't inlet the hogue. I have filled the stock with epoxy and an aluminum channel from the recoil lug forward and the stock still flexes too much for my tastes.

I have made this mistake twice. Buy a nice stock, bottom metal and you have almost spent enough to buy a chassis. Just wait and get the chassis you want.

I didnt think about selling the Hogue, what the average price this would sell for?

If I save for a chassis, I would still have to purchase the DBM anyways. Its only 75$ to have the inlet done @ Badger. My thought would be to buy the DBM, be able to use it, then buy the JAE already with the inlet for the DBM that I have, and not have to wait to get the DBM. Im not doing this to be "cool" @ the range, I like magazines. Its easier to slap a mag in vs. top feeding ammo. Just my opinion tho.

To get back to my original question.
What DBM do you all run and why?
Are some better than others?

I use Badger DBM products because they are well built and proven designs. I prefer the latch because I swap magazines with my support hand and it is easy to rock the latch with my thumb while stripping a magazine.

My other favorite top quality systems include Surgeon, Stiller, APA and Seekins.

I agree on the Hogue - that is a great stock on a 10/22 but whoever thought it would be a good performer on a centerfire rifle I am guessing isn't a serious shooter. Buy a ridged stock and go from there. Buy once, cry once. I suggest you look hard at the Manners products. In fact, you could get a Manners stock with the mini-chassis (made by Badger) bottom metal already built into the stock.

I've got a Savage rifle that I'm putting together. I bought a B&C Tactical Medalist for it to start with. Not sure how far I want to take that set-up. I had considered getting a DBM for it, but by the time I had invested about $225 in the stock and about $350 or so in the DBM I'd be near the cost of a chassis system. Those chassis systems are really nice in that they have the DBM feature built in. I figure that, when I'm ready, I can sell off he B&C stock and then use that money toward a chassis.

Which chassis are you guys referring to? What if you don't want a chassis and want to stick with a more traditional stock? I don't see the DBM being a waste at that point.

Myself I wasted money on the Wyatt DBM so that I didn't need to inlet, but eventually I will want a rifle with Badger-type DBM. Although I may just keep my first rifle the way it is and start over with a new one or perhaps purchase a ready-made GAP if I strike it rich.

A chassis IS DBM. The JAE is set up for AICS mags - you won't need it inlet for DBM. If you buy DBM like the Badger or PTG Stealth, ETC. you will have to sell it with whatever stock you use it in when you upgrade to a chassis. No chassis will need "dbm" added. Depending on the chassis cost, buy it now and skip the intermediate steps...or if the chassis costs too much for you at this point then pick up a HS Precision or B&C used and have CDI Precision inlet his bottom metal into it. $200 or so for the stock and $300 for CDI DBM, inlet and a mag. That will do you for awhile, at about 1/3 the cost of a tricked out JAE. Go for the chassis if you can afford it, though.

I just bought this Chaote Tac Stock, CDI combo, with a 10 round mag my new 700 sps. Will order a another 10 rounder and a couple 5 rounders when funds build up a bit. Been reading here for a while as a lurker recently joined, teh Choate stocks dont seem that popular but I have been using them for years and love them.

Ive looked at the Wyatt System, and have read that some people had some issues with it. Some had a loading problem with the first round, other have said that it wasnt a complete 'drop in' as some people said theyve had to shim it, some had to shave down the opening to make it flush.

Guys,, I also am in the market for a detacable mag system for my 700. I was going to buy the B&C Medalist Adustable stock for $450 and the Wyatts Mag for $250. But now after following this conversation, I am re-considering. What about the AICS stock which comes with the mag setup already? Price on that is about $850. If i get the B&C stock, the Badger for $350, I am at $800 already and not including the inleting. What are your thoughts on the AICS set-up???????????????

I have the Wyatt system in my B&C M40 stock, seems to work fine. The single stack magazines are a pain to load, but they feed ok. The 10 rounder is extremely long but the 5 is ok. I also had to use the supplied shims with mine to get the magazine to seat...I'm unsure what the possible effect on accuracy of the shims being in there would be. Seems ok so far.

Ive done much research on this. Ive looked over so many reviews on all the chassis out there, ones mentioned here, and the ones you guys have recommended.
I was torn between J Allen Chassis and XLR Chassis.
I was all set to buy an J Allen Chassis, had the order form completed. Yea it was a bit expensive, but it wasnt the money. It was the 10-12 month wait!!
I found a huge thread on here about XLR and started reading. Seems like alot of people on here love their chassis from them. I contacted Kyle and talked to him about my rifle. I then found out that the XLR comes with a DBM. Only thing I would have to buy extra is my magazines!
I will be calling Kyle tomorrow, or Friday with my order and in 8 weeks (which is their lead time at the moment) I will have mine.

Not to be critical, buuuut....

Had you read this thread (you know, the one YOU started), you would have figured out, two weeks ago, that the XLR <span style="font-style: italic">chassis</span> is set up, as most chassis systems (if not all) are, to accept detachable magazines.
