I just posted a discussion whether or not I should go with a LH rifle for long range shooting. If I do go with a a LH rifle which should I consider. I'm looking at 308 and 260 chambered. I think it will be mainly used for prone using a bipod. I've looked at many of the offerings from Remington, Savage and Tikka. The Tikka rifles I handled have nice actions but it seems like they concentrate on selling their lite versions which is not what I'm looking for. I like the Savage 12 long range precision but I don't think it's offered in LH unless you order it custom which I don't want to pay for.

Check this out. Just a few dollars more than what you are looking to spend, but it has all the bells and whistles your likely to need to get into the sport.
Savage 12 308 Winchester LH custom LPR gunsmith : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com
You can also look into a Rem LH varmint rifle, but you'd have to spend money to upgrade it, and your over budget again.
$1,000 isn't going to get you much, unless you find a good used rifle.

Walmart was selling its amazing accurate Sig 3000 for $999. You can still buy on Gunbroker for around $1350. I think it is the most rifle for the money if you can settle for the .308. Heavy free floated barrel, one piece rail and receiver, adjustable trigger which breaks perfectly on my gun (I never even touched it) muzzle brake, solid stock and sub-moa accuracy. At 100 yards all my rounds touch if i do my part using 168 or 175 Match Federal ammo. The Steiner Military scope might be part of the equation.

Check snipercountrypx.com

They usually have a least one LH R700 for sale in .308. Most of the time they have a lefty SPS varmint but occasionally they will have a lefty 700P.

I actually looked at the tikka sporter and it looks pretty nice but it seems like it's pretty expensive at about $600 more than the varmint which to me is a lot for a optional factory stock. Funny thing is I can't find the varmint in stock anywhere. It would be nice to get a varmint and upgrade the stock as I get the money. I handled the t3 lite at cabelas and it had a hell of a nice action. They must really push the lite model as you see them everywhere.

I'm was in the same position and went with a Remington 700 sps varmint. Ended up sending it to gap and rebarreled it. Now I'm waiting on manners. The joys if being a lefty.
