Hello all, building a .300 PRC long range rifle well piecing one together have a MPA Matrix chassis being made at the moment and don’t know which long action to use? This is my first custom build so kind of lost, would like to be able to use prefits with this setup, bolt lift angle don’t matter much, not sure if I want to use AW mags or not help me with that decision also if you could. Appreciate the suggestions!

I built a .300 PRC on a ARC Mausingfield action in a MPA Matrix chassis. I can tell you it shoots great. My favorite build
Lot of great options out there so it’s hard to go wrong. Just make sure it’s cut for the magnums which most do. My dream build would be on an ARC Archimedes as the pivoting bolt would help with extract of a magnum case.
Also, I believe AW is only on SA R700 actions. If you want AW LA then buy an AI. I could be wrong in this though.

I have both the Mausingfield and the Impact long action.
No bad choice here, but my next build will be an Impact.
Mausingfield does have CRF and a replaceable bolt head if that is important but there is too much going on with the Mausingfield for me from feeding to extraction to ejection.
Simple is good and the Impact checks that box.

I like mechanical ejection.
I like the design.
I like that they can use savage prefits.
I like that they’re made in my old stomping grounds.
A TL3 also is something I considered.
Nothing wrong with defiance or impact, I just have features I want and ARC and Zermatt check my boxes.
Two other actions I would like to get someday are a surgeon 1571XL or Badger M2013 just because I think they’re cool but neither are a 700 footprint.
Curious to know why you think the Mausingfield has too much going on for it.
Have you had issues with your Mausingfield?
Not really but with controlled round feed, torical bolt head or whatever it's called, replaceable bolt head, ejection only at the very end of the bolt travel it seems more complicated than it needs to be.
I did have a problem with ejection but found the smallest bit of interference between the bolt and the cheek riser which was causing weak ejection. Not a fault of the action in any way but an example of what I worry about.
Fundamentally, the action moves the round from the magazine into the chamber then extracts and ejects. Simple is good. The Impact does all that simply and effectively. The less going on the better in my view.
No criticism of the Mausingfield implied. It does what it needs to do but I have more confidence in the Impact.
Both are outstanding actions. I like them both.
I have the mausingfield, archimedes and an impact. All left handed. I love them all and shoot them all equally well and often. That being said, I like controlled round feed, mechanical ejection allowing me to control the ferocity of ejection. I am impressed with the thought put into the engineering of the ARC actions which are not just a custom 700 action. Being a senior citizen, I'd say the mausingfield is the Cadillac. A term we used growing up to signify the best American made quality product.
I run Nucleus, and they are great. Discussion above about "simple" is really about preference. There is nothing complex about mechanical extraction. I would say it is simpler cause it has no spring. Nothing against the guy who likes the spring/pin extraction, its his preference is all. I totally get what he means, because with the bolt face ejector it just happens pretty much the same every time, it is simple.
You gotta run the actions to figure out what you like. Find a way to get behind them.

Nucleus has the least bells and whistles, hence the lower price. Still crf and 3 lug bolt.

I’d say the mechanical ejection is far more reliable and simple.
I’ve seen a lot of stuck plunger ejectors.
Just recently happened on my buddy’s rifle from a well known shop
The extractors on all the ARC actions are simple,and very robust with good rim coverage.
Toroidal lugs mean you always have good lugs contact.
I do agree you need experience to learn what you really want.

The only meaningful difference to me between the ARC actions are the bolt throw differences. I had a short action Archimedes, and it wasn't functionally different than my Nucleus. I didn't need the lever extraction for SA.
The lever extraction is why I would go with Archimedes for long action.
I would go with Mausingfield if there was a chance I might later go to a Lapua bolt face cartridge. I really wish the Archimedes came in Lapua face, cause I want to eventually run a 37 cal of some variety and would love the lever extraction.
A big vote for the big horn Origin. Long action costs a little bit more than the short action, but still cheaper than many of the options listed here. Top tier customer service too.
The large magnum option is the reason I want a Mausingfield so bad.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Ultimately, all of the actions listed above are high quality actions. You're mostly going to be splitting hairs based on preference. In general, people lean towards whatever features they feel gives them an edge (in competition or hunting).
