I can only keep one. Both Rem 700 bdl, one from 66, other from 70. Both in 85-90% condition. Love them both, the 25 is a lil better on the Montana Prairie, but I am in Cal now. Both have great triggers, the 243 has the nicer style pressed checkering than the 25.

Is one caliber worth more than the other? I need to sell whichever one is worth the most.

also, the 25 has pad installed, the 243 has original metal plate

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Also, I see guys parting rifles out here. I'd hate to chop up one of these guns, but I would if it meant substantially more $$ for my new baby.

How much would rifle alone sell for easily, vs parted out?

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Agreed keep the 243. The 25 is a great caliber but ammo is getting harder to find. not to mention it is getting costly. iam sorry your in california now but as of next year there isnt any online ammo sales that can come into the state. so 243 is more of a logical choice.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

the 243 would be worth more to a collector with the steen but plate but i would keep it as it is something that you will be able to get a lot more for if you ever decide to sell it down the track. realy they would both be worth something but the only real collector value would be the 243 as it is all standard the 25-06 would sell pretty quickly though and if someone shoots it out they would be able to rebarrel it to most calibres and even open the bolt for an ultramag.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

What are you doing with it? If you are shooting for fun and occasionally deer size game, shoot the 243. If you shoot alot of deer size game I would keep the 25-06. I shot one alot when I lived in WY and they are great deer/antelope rifles. I have also shot many deer with .243 and 6mm Remington. All killed well. But I think the 25-06 for whatever reason tends to knock them straight down more often than the 243/6mm.s

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Just use it for deer/antelope hunting.

Like I said, I need to sell whichever rifle I can get the most $$ for. So if the .243 is worth the most, I need to sell the .243.

Any idea what I should ask for either rifle? I know what they are listed for on gunbroker, those prices do not seem very realistic to me.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

I could be wrong but I am unfortunate enough to have a lot of experience selling things recently. The economy sucks and it's a buyer's market. I wouldn't expect either to bring any kind of premium regardless of the vintage. IMO, this year has been even worse than last year.

As far as folks parting out the rifles for the actions goes, LA and SA 700s were recently selling brand new for 350. I wouldn't expect you to get much more for your rifles.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

keep the 25-06. However I disagree with all those who say the 243 will be worth more. 25-06 is a rare cartridge in the recent history and sem to bring a higher price.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

yes 25-06 might be harder to find unlike the 243 but it is by no mean a rare cartridge. Its just harder to find. If you want a practical rifle and cheaper caliber then go for the 243.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

25-06 = +$ (maybe not in this case because of the .243 is the Deluxe), but that is the one I'd keep. Performs a little better, and covers more of the hunting spectrum if your are going to be a one gun owner.
Old BB doesn't show any difference in price for the calibers, but the Deluxe model brings a few more bucks.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Well Jon, I have a 9 day old baby boy at home now, and I need to buy a mini-van. I'd love to have a whole bunch of rifles and cool stuff, but one of these has gotta go.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

You need a minivan for one kid? How big is that boy?!

What's the serial number on your 243? Hey, you might get lucky and have a 6 digit that could be used for a spec build. That would fetch you nearly 1K. Good luck with your new baby, they're worth more than any rifle.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Oliver was 10pounds 14 oz at birth. Plus my Woman has a five yr old and we have a 100# lab.

6 digit? 6 digit serial #? I have a 6 digit serial number, what did I win?

I agree about baby being worth more than any rifle. I am loving this little guy.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Oh shit, a minivan, its all down hill from there

Sell the .243 as it may sell sooner being that it is more popular/mainstream. Need money for diapers, formula, and that minivan you know. Congrats, BTW.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Thanks Rob

I actually like a Mini-van, Odyssey. Just feels right.

Ive changed no less than 10 diapers today, and he pee'd in my armpit somehow, that was a first.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Congratulations on the new child. Either rifle will work fine for your hunting needs, and the .243 will probably sell a little quicker. I say try to sell the .243.

Re: Which one : .243 or 25-06?

Get her on WIC and save the rifle.

Use Huggies or something cheaper. Pampers cost too much!

I guess we're too late to save you from the minivan. Sounds like she has brainwashed you already...

No more sultry looks from the chicks.

Oh, and if I HAD to choose between them, I would keep the 243
