Looking to have a pvs14 mounted behind optic on AR-15 platform. Also will have helmet mount. What small optics red dot/low power long eye relief scopes work best in this arrangement pertaining to field of view and functionality.
    Thanks

I don't weapons mount 14s any more ... not saying I wouldn't in an "emergency" ... but ... not worth the risk to me ... I run them on my head or with a lanyard around my neck.

Back when I did ... I mostly ran it on a .22lr(16) (stoner work alike) for ratting ... but I ran it at least once on a 5.56(14.5) per this pic.

Note the 3x magnifier screwed on the front of the 14.

One advantage of running it behind the EOTECH is that the EOTECH let's more light pass through than other options. That said, I don't have that EOTECH any more as mine was one of the ones that got a fragmented dulled out dot, due to my using it in too many ice storms. Apparently EOTECHs didn't like ice storms. Who knew !? :)

Where 14s are very useful on the rifles/carbines is for co-witnessing tasks. And for that I got a Night Optics day/night adapter

Here is a setup for co-witnessing the laser in the radius to align it with the reticle in the day scope.

All co-witness tasks are so much easier with that day/night critter.

If you really want to weapons mount, there exist "WG" (weapons grade) tubes, that might hold up a little better under recoil, and we could point you at a guy that can build you a 14 with a WG tube.

But the other way to weaponize a 14 is to put an ir-laser on your rifle/carbine. See with the 14 on your head, aim with the laser. Here is my current setup for doing that.

Agree 100% with this. Even though most thebs say they are rated for .223/5.56 I would not risk the tube damage. Head mount with a weapon mount desingnator is the best most versatile option.

It will cost more to use a designator but I'm the long run it may save you money. The cheapest option would be a surefire. X400V ir.

EOTech EXPS3-0 has worked well for me - it has the dedicated NV intensity settings.

I’ve used my PVS14 on 5.56 and 6.8 but yes as others said it may be akin to rolling the dice. Have since migrated to thermal but still will use it on weapon in a pinch.

when I run weapons mounted I use my PVS-14 RC. It is rated to 7.62- but it will run you about a grand more. I use a standard 14 for a helmet mount system as wig did above. Primarily now I use the 14 for off road driving. You cannot use a thermal for that as the civilian version thermal will not see through glass. Once you get used to it the helmet mount used in conjunction with a laser is very effective and east to set up. The laser I like best is the CQB-1, which was produced by Laser Device, since bought out by another company. It is snall and has both a vis and IR laser which are co-alingned, Sight one in and trhey both are. It works really well,

Thanks for the advice on the day/night adapter- have you ever had any issues with it falling of or anything?

... have you ever had any issues with it falling of ...

No issues with falling off ... BUT I do not shoot with it like that ... I only use it for co-witnessing tasks. I do seem to have a large # of co-witnessing tasks.

The Day/Night device comes with a half-a-dozen "cuffs" so you can get it to fit on various optics. So far, I haven't found an optic I couldn't mount it on, including G-33 magnifier.

There are people that shoot with the Day/Night adapter, but I am not among them. My cheek/stock weld would get messed up unless I moved the scope way forward ... and don't want to do that.
