Rifle Scopes Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Snip., What are you putting the scope on?
Whatever Nikon scope you choose I encourage you to go to the Nikonhunting.com web site, click on Spot On logo and enter your load information. You will be amazed at how the information provided will help you be a more knowledgable shooter. Especially if you are getting a BDC reticle scope. I have told a lot of folks about Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Match Technology Program and they were wishing they had bought a scope with a BDC reticle. Check out the below link to an article written by a Snipershide moderator, on his experience with Nikon's BDC reticle scope.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Well considering Nitrix is a Weaver brand and i prefer Nikon to Weaver, i would certainly lean towards Nikon.

I also agree with paying a smidgin more for the Monarch as the 3-12 models on up have the parallax knob.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

I just got the Nitrex on the special they are runnign at Natchez. I really like the scope, even would say it is better than a buckmaster. These were the two I was comparing before I bought mine. I think it is a lot more scope than 200 bucks normally will get you. No mildot though.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

I too recommend Nitrex. I looked through Nikon Monarchs and IMO, the Nitrex glass is better. For hunting, get the EBX reticle, it's just like Nikon's BDC. Zero at 200 yds, and the dot underneath is 300, then 400, etc...The Zero-stop works great on the Nitrex, very easy to use YMMV.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Another recommendation for the Nitrex TR2 scope....I own a TR2 3-15x42SF and a 4-20x50SF. The Japanese optics in these scopes are comparable in brightness and clarity to Nikons, Leupolds, Burris, Sightrons and Zeiss Conquest. This is not my opinion...it is opinion of owners of these scopes at range I shoot after they had viewed thru my 3-15x42 and played with its adjustments. Same gents thought the Side Focus/fast focus or elevation/windage adjustments in the Nitrex excellent too.

Save some money, order the Nitrex

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Thanks so far for the replies, don't guess I could go wrong with either one. I plan on mounting it on a Savage PC10 in .308. It will be used on deer & pig, and paper punching up to 5-600yds. Tough decision, was leaning towards Nikon but.....Nitrex is only a box of match ammo less, so price is almost a toss up.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

A box of match ammo less in price?? Tried to check price of a buckmaster 4.5-14x42 but guess you meant a 4.5-14x40 SF which should cost you about $275 or higher. The Nitrex you are interested in is about $218 final cost once you deduct $100 Nitrex Rebate and add shipping from www.natchezss.com

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Yeah, I changed it up a bit. Found the Nikon for $263 ( nikoplex), compared to EBX RETICLE @$238. I may kick myself, but I'm going to try the Nitrex.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

jhutch....seriously doubt you'll need to kick yourself for getting the Nitrex. I monitor the optics section (and others) on numerous gunsites.....I've yet to read of anyone who got a Nitrex have a regret about it....all very pleased with its glass and features.

I think you will be too. </div></div>

How much E/W adjustment do you have in these Nitrex scopes.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

I just checked out the BDC reticle on the Nikon site.
Funny how I was all set to get a Nikon and I already forgot what it looks like since I got my Nitrex!
Dlxcupid said the Nitrex EBX reticle is like the Nikon BDC reticle. I was thinking I needed to check that out again. Glad I did.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

i have a buckmasters on a deer gun that i do not dial. i use the mil dots as holdover on 18x. i know that on my 3 buckmasters the clicks are not repeatable. if you dial out you will be re zeroing on my scopes.

i bought the nitrex hiping i can dial on a rimfire. holdovers dont get you very far on a rimfire

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Use to be a Nikon Monarch guy now I'm a Nitrex TR2 guy. Best deal on the market for sub $600.00. Biggest reason for me was the quality of hardware. Nitrex has Nikon beat for sure. Glass quality is a push. IMO

Cheers!

Only one Nitrex rebate to a place of address/household. Have a friend or brother nearby?

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

Nitrex is a tremendous value as far as glass quality goes. I just received a replacement for my 3-15x50 illuminated reticle. It did not work out of the box. On the new one the rheostat turns way too easily and it is still too bright at the lowest setting.

Re: Which scope? Nikon or Nitrex?

I bought the trexplex reticle....lower priced than their EBX and I just shoot paper up to 200 yards at present (600 yard berm under construction where I shoot). Nice reticle for me. Did have a guy with a 4.5-14X44 Zeiss Conquest tell me he liked my trexplex reticle better than reticle in his Zeiss after checking out my Nitrex. What kind he had, I do not know.
