I'm debating which of two scopes to keep as I have two .308 rifles and only need one. The one rifle i am planning on selling is a custom Rem 700 LTR with a S&B PM II 10x42. My other rifle is a Tango 51 with a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14.

I was thinking about putting the S&B on the Tango and selling the Rem/ Leupold combo.

Any reason why I shouldn't?

Re: Which scope to keep?

Your Tango is 18"? USO's 3.2-17's fit right in between the 4-16 or 5-20 you speak of. And it doesn't get much slimmer than a 3.2-17 with their 37mm ERGO (still gives a nice forgiving 2.17 exit pupil and if you went 35 or 34mm you'd have plenty of light transmission).

It sounds like your Tango isn't in-hand yet - if thats' the case and you have time to wait you might try waiting for the PMII 3-20X50mm. The 3-20X50 is slightly shorter than the PMII 4-16Xs', but it has twice the travel. While you certainly don't need 26 MILs' of travel for a .308 (you can get out to 1,000 yards in less than 11 MILs' with FGMM and Black Hills 175s' and others) the extra travel is always welcome - especially in a relatively compact scope. <span style="font-style: italic">Aesthetically</span> speaking, a PMII 5-25X56mm looks a little large on a Tango, but <span style="font-style: italic">functionally</span> its' fine.

If you want to check-out a PMII 5-25X (56mm) in-person and you can make it up to ASR (<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Angeles Shooting Ranges</span></span>) I can bring a rifle with PMII 5-25X 0.1 MIL CCW Gen 2 XR to the range for you to check-out. My X-Ray 51 is being re-fitted with a new stock and bottom metal right now, but hopefully I'll have it back in-hand before Thanksgiving. I'd also let you fire the X-Ray after I get it back - it also wears a PMII 5-25X 0.1 MIL CCW Gen 2 XR.

Re: Which scope to keep?

What do you want to do with the Tango?

When I get mine I'll have 3 scope for it

3-12x56 FFP Hensoldt for prac/tac comps maybe hunting as well.

8-32X56 SFP Sightron for ELR shooting and F-TR, group/dot drills (to be confirmed/purchases).

3-9X50 SFP Duplex Zeiss for hunting (this doubles as my .22lr scope as well).

Re: Which scope to keep?

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have the Tango already, with the 4.5-14 Leupold. Haven't been to the range as much as I'd like.

I may have to stop by USO in Brea if I'm ever own in the O.C.

Thanks for the advice Keith, if I remember correct from prior postings you are a Monday morning at Angeles guy. Unfortunately I have to work Monday thru Thursday but maybe I'll take you up on that one of these next few months, Angeles is only about 15 miles from me.

No problem about my advice. I misunderstood you about your Tango - When you said <span style="font-style: italic">"I'm going to be running an 18" barrel"...</span> I thought that you didn't have the Tango yet. You're already running an 18" barrel Tango (actually, unless you specified 18.0" your barrel is probably closer to 18.75").

You should. JW III and his crew are great folks and build very nice scopes. My preference is still S & B though, and I would definitely sell the Leupold and probably the S & B 10X42 S & B to help finance a PMII variable.

Like I said - no problem on the advice. And yeah - I'm a Monday ASR guy, although even Mondays get busy sometimes now. I was at ASR two Mondays ago and a couple of "blasters" sitting two benches to my right set-up their target frames at 50 yards but at 11:00 of their bench. They shot both of my 100 yard frames up. I politely asked them to pay me for my frames, which they did, but I left right after that.

Looking back, now I remember that you bought a friend's Tango 51 when she needed cash. Great way to help her out and get a great rifle. My offer stands, and I sometimes head to ASR for a bit on Fridays.

Re: Which scope to keep?

Thanks Keith. Nothing like the riff raff that crowds up Angeles sometimes. I usually go to A Place To Shoot. It's closer, has less people, and those that are there are usually have pretty good range etiquette. The downside is the short range compared to Angeles.
