Hello, I'm new to this forum and was needing some help.
I just recieved my first AR15, and I'm looking for a scope for it. I will be shooting targets and pigs etc with it. Distance fromm 100 yards to 400 yards maybe 500 yards. I have a very cheap scope on it now and it shoots 3/4 to 1/2 sub moa 18 inch barrel 1/8 twist. I'm looking to spend $500 to $900 on it. I want something that I can reach out to with good accuracy not sure on magnification level of the scope or brand[/b]. Please help

Thanks

I second that Vette. I actually just ordered a PST from Vette that should be here this week and am really really looking forward to trying it out. Ive been very impressed with the products Vortex puts out and if you've read much at all about them you will quickly learn the warranty they offer is second to none. For me I went with the PST because its going on a precision rig for much further shooting but from what it sounds like you will be doing the hs line ought to suite you just fine. Also, Vette can comment but I like bigger objectives lets in more light however on an AR smaller may be better. I will let others chime in though with advice and opinions.

You could pick up the Vortex PST 4-16x50 from alot of places for your price range. What you need to decide on is what features your looking for then go from there. You say you've just got your first AR is this your first rifle? I would suggest learning as much as possible before jumping the gun on a scope. If you pick up something your not happy with in a year then you've pissed away that money. Me personally for an AR I really like the ACOG's , but they are out of your price range. If your new to shooting go check out the shooter ready simulator, its a good tool for learning about how dialing/milling and range estimation work. It's kinda hard to give good advice not knowing what you know. I mean for all we know you could have a 5x scope with a red dot and your just dumping mags walking the rounds onto a target. The recommendations (other than my first post which was a joke by the way;) ) were just general should work no matter what skill level or needs you have. You'll be alot better off just holding what you've you've got until you've found out for yourself what your looking for. Good luck and I hope you find a great scope

Re: Which scope would you suggest.

No, this is not my first rifle I have several bolt action hunting rifles that I hunt with. This is my first AR and would be my fisrt tatical scope. As far as scopes I currently have on my hunting rifle they are VX III 3.5-10 50mm 4.5-14 50mm. Looking for my first tatical scope and accuracy is very important to me.

Thanks

for a ar i would go 50mm. with a ar you have to mount the scope higher to get a proper check weld so you misse well go with the 50mm

Re: Which scope would you suggest.

Accuracy doesn't really have much to do with the scope. If your rifle is accurate then any good quality aiming device won't affect it one way or the other. The stuff to look for in a scope is clarity, proper tracking, return to zero, zero stop, tactile clicks, FFP/SFP, matching turrets & reticle etc. Do you want it to be in MILs or MOA? Both are fine just different. Other than narrowing it down any of the scopes mentioned would be a good option. Since your new to all this take your time and figure out what options you want first then go from there. If you've never dialed your dope which alot of people don't you'll want to figure out which system you want to use first MIL/MOA. If your not familiar with either one read up on both, and to get a better idea of how they work go here Shooter Ready Demo
