I have a Rem 700 BDL in 300wm that is my deer gun. I am planning to go out west elk hunting next year and I think I am gonna replace my tupperware stock(currently free floated and shoots MOA) for a better stock. The barrel is the standard hunting profile. Weight is going to be a major consideration of course, other wise I would lug my 13 lb 5r 308 out there! Is the Hogue overmold ok for this purpose? or do I need to step on up a little.

Step on up. Go to McMillan's website and click on "Specials" in the menu bar - choose "Stocks" after that and "Remington." Last time I looked there were a few stocks there that would work for you and one or two with "Edge" construction (carbon fiber for lighter weight).

Hey Smith I did exactly what you are thinkin about doin. For the money and weight Id look at the BC Medalist stock. Well balanced and the weight is good for a full aluminum bedding block. The barrel channel fit my SPS Tac very well. I was totin around a Choate Tac stock before and hell Id might as well be carrying around a 50pd bag of potatoes. Good stock but not for carrying around hunting.

Well I just noticed you said you had a standard toothpick barrel. Look at the BC Alaskin Ti stock...that should suit your application.

The Alaskan was just what I was looking at. I have the B&C on my 5r and really like it. I was not very keen on the foreend to start with, but have grown to like it. I am looking more closely at the Mcmillans and the B&C right now. For the money the Alaskan is looking hard to beat.
