I have a Rem 700 SPS, and the houge stock needs to go. What should I replace it with. The Bell and Carlson medalist is 200 bucks and I will need to grind down the sides to make the forearm bearable. Or should I spend the extra 200 and get the adjustable one.

Mcmillians, and Manners are hard to come buy and take forever to order.

Chassis systems, are about the best bang for your buck, but I do not really have $800 to spend on a stock.

What should I do? Should I go the cheep route and get the B and C, and modify it to my liking or buy once cry once?

If you can save up and get one you really want (Manners, McMillan, etc), why not do that? I have a B&C Medalist right now, and it's a good stock and all but I'm going to replace it with either a Manners or a JAE700. If you don't get what you want now you'll just find a way to get it later and usually you'll lose money on the first stock you compromised with.

Switchblade, you are a man of much wisdom, love your rifle like you would your wife, or better

Re: Which Stock to Buy

If McMillan/Manners are totally out of the question, I would recommend the HS Precision take-off stock from a 700P or 5R. You can find them from $175-225 all day long. Probably a few for sale right this minute on here. Same aluminum bedding block as the B&C and you don't need to do any mods to make it comfortable. FYI, the HS Precision 700P stock is a couple of inches longer overall than the 5R stock, or at least it used to be. I don't know if they have standardized them yet.

if money is a concern go the Bell and Carlson and shave out what ever you need to and bed it yourself -it is not hard! I have done it myself successfully and I am no handyman -more of a wrecker.
Spend that extra cash on another part of your rifle -like a custom barrel

Re: Which Stock to Buy

Guy,
Build the rifle on paper first. Account for how it will be funded at each part. Invest in the raman and don't buy anything less than than what you would:
Stake your child's life on
Stake your own life on
Stake the safety of your reputation on

Remember, crap in, crap out, ie it will break or cause you distress. I'll not vouch for the quality or durability of anything but a McMillan or AI stock since those are what I have, but if you are going to be playing beyond the cemented firing line, I would suggest only the best and most reliable military grade equipment as seen at SHC's and Rifle's Only
