whit oak uppers

Re: whit oak uppers

You can't go wrong with an upper from White Oak Armament or White Oak Precision. John is a top notch highpower shooter and he sells good stuff.

I've got a WOA upper that's on it's third barrel and still holding strong.

Now that the AR15 panic is waning, the wait times might not be as long, but I'm sure there is a backlog. When a co-worker of mine got his a few months ago, he waited about 4 months to get it.

Re: whit oak uppers, I went RRA Varmint

I bought one of their 26 barreled uppers for high power competition (match rifle class) and my local clubs 300yd tactical matches. I ended up buying a Rock River Varmint upper that gave me better accuracy. Maybe the WOA would do better than the RRA with 80 grainers but 77 and down the RRA had it. The RRA had a shorter thicker barrel (24 inchx.900 VS 26x.750)if that means anything

White Oak is a quality company.I had a 26" 204 Ruger upper of theirs that was like a laser beam.Another thing I like is you can buy a lower parts kit minus the trigger,I don't have to pay for a trigger I'm not going to use anyway.

This is incorrect. The WOA match rifle barrel is 1" to the gas block, .830" to the front sight tenon, then .750" for the front sight tenon (approx 1.250" tenon length).

If you like your chambers cut between no go and field then you made a good choice with the RRA over a WOA which is cut between go and .002" over go.

It's all in the barrel when it comes to an AR. I've got barrels from both companies and I'm liking my CLE barrel more. WOA is great stuff though. Best LPK for the money. Super awesome because it doesn't come with a trigger. Great for builds that use aftermarket triggers.

Re: whit oak uppers

John Hollinger of WOA is as good as you can get. I have been dealing with John since he has been in business and you could not find a better guy. He also offers several wildcat chamberings in AR-15s, .22 PDK, 6mm PDK, 6mm WOA, 6mm SAAR(6mm Grendel), 6mm RAT(6mm Grendel IMP.)

Most people don't realize how much business these two companies do with one another. Both are good companies to deal with. I will also tell you that if you ask either about the other you will hear high praise.

WOA buys the blanks from Wilson arms and has Frank at CLE contour and chamber them to Johns specs. I have 4 WOA barrels I have used for builds and they are very good barrels. I would say probably one of the better ones you can get without going with a handlapped barrel. I really like the ones I have.

Re: whit oak uppers, I went RRA Varmint

I have owned an upper from WOP (before WOA existed) with a 1:6.5" 3-groove PacNor chambered for the 90JLKs and it was, hands down, the best across-the-course AR I ever had. Second place goes to the CLW 1:7.7" Kreiger that I had Frank build for me in the early 90s on a Bushmaster I had. For raw accuracy, it was phenomenal, shooting in the 1/2-3/4moa range at 300 yards with 69s or 80s. I prefer the more modern triggers (KAC, WOP/RRA mod, etc) over Frank's, but I have to give Frank a huge BZ for his ingenious way of making the AR trigger VERY good. John's pinned sights are awesome. Frank's float-tubes are best IMHO, but I used LOTS of sling tension.

In summary, buy and shoot from either in confidence.

That was before John bought his new lathe. He now does WOA barrels inhouse as well. He has always done his WOP barrels in house.

I'm betting that it's all about the quality of the blank, then. I know my CLE was made from a douglas blank. Not sure what my WOA 16" Match carbine barrel was made from...
