Who has built a "do it all" rifle?

CTR is threaded. I just put a brake on mine to make it easier to see misses at distance. Will eventually replace with a suppressor if they ever pass the HPA. If not, the brake will be fine.

My "do it all" rifle is a 308 Win. Will kill anything I shoot at. Built mostly for 800 yards and closer. Nice little rifle.
Savage Model 12 action
PacNor 18" barrel. Sendero contour. 11.25" twist. Fluted. Threaded with a flash suppressor.
B&C M40 stock.
SWFA 3-15 optic
Harris bipod
Weight 10lbs
Cost, about $2,300 total.

For those of you that like the EH1, what do you like about it better than the T2? I’m trying to make my choice between the two. I appreciate the input...thx.

It´s a little slimmer on the forend area, easier to handle IMO. the T2 might ride the sandbags better with the wider frond, but for all around use I find the EH1 a little better

That's my experience as well. I had a T2 before the EH1. I think the narrower fore end is better for positional/offhand shooting. The grip feels a little different to me, maybe like it's a touch narrower but both are very similar for prone shooting on bipod/platform/bags etc...

I swear the grip is smaller than the T2 and T6. I had a T2 for years and got tired of the weight being a folder so I moved to a Eh1a and a T6a. The EH1a grip feels smaller in my hand than the T6 does. Not sure if it is or not but sure seems like it. I'm trying to figure out which one to sell and which one to get a second one of. Not sure which way to go for a do all. That's what I'm trying to do with both these rifles...

This was my stab at it.. turned out really well. I shot one match with it and I don't think it held me back, but ultimately, I built a much heavier dedicated match gun. If you're thinking more matches and less hunting, i would go a touch heavier on the barrel.
specs:
Bighorn TL-2
Manners EH1
Curtis BM
Bart #3b @ 22.5" in 6 Creedmoor
Bare rifle with scope is 10.5 pounds
loaded up with sling, suppressor, atlas bipod and empty mag, it's right at 12.5 pounds

My first stab at it was a 6.5 cm built with:

Defiance Deviant Tactical nitrided
action w/ 20moa rail
Bartlein 5R #3B @ 22”
APA RTG/SA bottom metal
Accurate Magazine
Jewell HVR trigger at 1.5lbs.
McMillan CF/edge fill stock built to Hill Country Rifles’ specs for right-handed shooter and called a “Rifleman” stock

It’s a great rifle with no issues shooting to almost 1200 and several whitetail and hogs out to 450 this season. All DRT.

That said, I’m in the process of yet another do-it-all rifle. This new one, I believe, will TRULY be a do-it-all for virtually any hunting or competing I’ll ever do. Here’s what I’m having Clayton at West Texas Ordinance do:

Bighorn SR3 action w/ feed lips and 20moa rail
WTO SwitchLug (new type w/ no additional thickening of the recoil lug)
1 Bartlein 5R #3B finished at 22.5”, threaded 5/8x24 and chambered in 6.5 SAUM
1 Bartlein 5R #3B finished at 22.5”, threaded 5/8x24 and chambered in 6.5 Sherman Shortmag
1 Bartlein 5R #3B finished at 22”, threaded 5/8x24 and chambered in 300wsm
APA RTG/SA bottom metal
AccurateMag 300wsm magazine
TriggerTech Diamond trigger.
ARC rings
Vortex AMG scope.

This rifle will enable me to shoot coyotes and whitetail to Alaskan moose and any comps I feel like entering. Hopefully it’ll be finished by the summer.

I would have to dig it up. But Stiler precision hunter action, Manners EH1-A, Proof CF barrel, with a few nice scope options was coming in around 10#. Chambered in 6.5 SAUM you’re gtg on any big game in North America and could bang steel at 1 mile.

Christensen ELR in 6.5 Creedmoor, with heavy 5-25 nightforce atacr on it and atlas bipod comes in around 11.5. It's only ever had factory 143 eld-x through it .5s are normal .3s and .4s happen pretty often too. It has been really effective at both for me. I know it could possibly stay in the .4s or .3s but I don't know if I can so I've just stuck with the 143 ELD-x. Had it on steel at 1000 several times & 300-600 yd pest removal pretty regularly.

I keep coming back to this concept whenever I am not shooting that much, then when I start shooting more and competing then I end up selling my do it all rifle and getting something specialized. It’s a vicious cycle. Don’t have as much time to shoot now so I’m going to try to another “do-it-all” rifle. I think I’ll go with a seekins Havak in 6.5 creedmoor http://www.seekinsprecision.com/part...n-rifle-3.html with a Leupold vx-6 https://www.leupold.com/scopes/compa...ctedSku=171580to try to keep the weight around ten pounds ready to go. Might be in the for sale section soon haha if I decide to go another route.

My "Do it All Rifle" is an older style Tikka T3 Stainless in 260 Rem. I mounted a slightly used Bushnell 3-12x44mm LRHS that I snagged off of Gun Broker. Since the CTR's stainless base is 0 MOA I mounted the Bushnell in a pair of Burris XTR Signature Rings using supplied inserts to give me 30 MOA of cant. That should give me about 20 Mils of up elevation. I also added a Stainless VG6 Gamma 65 Brake using a stainless jam nut instead of the supplied crush washer.

Planning on running Hornady 6.5mm 130 grain ELD Match bullets over RL-19, in Peterson Brass (outstanding stuff BTW), and CCI BR 2 primers. As a get my load finalized I post my data on the reloading board.

As much as I like the idea of 3-4 purpose built guns...I have to agree with the CTR call out.

Its not too heavy to carry
Its not too light to shoot well
Its proven accurate without a single upgrade

A guy could sell every rifle he owns, buy a CTR in 260/6.5/308, mount a great optic in great rings, 1000 rounds of ammo, and go forth without missing a beat.

Not really a 'do it all' but I've both hunted and used this rifle in a short range (50m-400m) match where it performed extremely well. 17.5' Tikka .308, 3-12 LRHS and a Manners T3. Weighs 10.8lbs as pictured

Do switch barrels count? I'm building a T3 CTR in a T4A with .223 barrel and bolt, 2x .243 barrels (20 and 26 inch) and a 7SAUM barrel and bolt. We'll see how well it turns out...

That will certainly "Do it All" in most practical cases.

Why not hang around here more often? Im building an M70 and could use some input from a good 30-06 guy.

I've been reading here a bit more lately. I'm still enjoying my 308s and 30-06.

I see the focus now seems to be on 6mm, 6.5mm, and big 375s.

I suppose I've become an 'old timer' of sorts, as I don't have any interest in re-rigging every couple years to keep up.

Focus is a matter of Perspective.

Reviving this thread. Semi-Custom 6.5x47 build on a Tikka Action.

Additions: Hardy Barrel @ 22'. Manners T3. Timney 2-stage. CDI DBM. NF 4-16. APA Brake & Rings. Sterk BH. Mild load of Varget puts the 130JLK's @2840fps. Supersonic to 1400 yards at my AO. Wouldn't call it super light but it's very manageable at 11.7lb as pictured.

So i posted early in the thread but i now have my build under way. I hope to get my bighorn origin this month and my 20inch 6.5 creedmoor in savage varmint contour shortly after that. I have a timny 510 for now and i am really struggling rather to get a krg bravo or xlr carbon. Probably i will go with a bravo to keep it on a budget. Hope to come in around 12 pounds with my tbac ultra 7 when i get it.

The PVA John Hancock would definitely fit the bill of a "do it all" rifle, depending on the caliber you choose. Wont be too heavy, traditional stock design out of a chassis, great trigger, super nice action and barrel, all for $2k Obviously nobody has one yet, but I basically have one with my nucleus action and PVA rock creek barrel. It will be pretty hard to beat for this type of rifle.

Sounds like a PVA Minuteman dropped into any of a half dozen chassis.

Bighorn TL3 SA
24" Med Palma with muzzle threads
Calvin Elite Trigger
Jetblast brake

Drop it into a KRG Bravo and you're a shade over 9lbs ready for glass and a bipod.
Or an XRay or MPA Hybrid or XLR... there are a dozen chassis that would fit the bill.

We have TL3's on the shelf (finally, it has been a long time coming)
We can also set the barrel up for a BarLoc so you can switch to other calibers when it suits you.

Another option would be do the thing in a 6 Creed, BarLoc and add in a 6.5 PRC for a magnum 6.5 as a hunting round. You have a Do-All rifle with anything from Ground Hogs to Elk, PRS field matches...

I tried to have a do-it-all rifle built and missed the mark by a mile.

Build Specs:
- Whole setup is 16 lbs and 51.5" long
- Mausingfield Action
- Proof carbon fiber barrel
- Manners EHF1A with mini-chassis and adjustable LOP
- Huber two-stage trigger
- Vortex Razor HD Gen 2 4.5-27x56mm
- TBAC Ultra-9 suppressor and Cole-Tac HTP suppressor cover

With a stock change to a Manners EH1A and a scope change to a lighter scope, I can probably get the weight down to 12.5 pounds. At that point, it'll actually be more like a do-it-all rifle. In the mean time though, I'll be ordering a Desert Tech SRS A1 in two weeks as a heavy do-it-all rifle that's actually manageable in length.

I will second the Seekins Havak. Close as I have come to a “do it all” rifle. I have 2 other customs but they are much heavier. Havak in 6.5 CM with Joe Ducos cheeck riser McMillian Game Warden stock and 3-15 Steiner. Weights 10.5 pounds and feels like 7.5 lbs. Gun shoots everything well.

I ended up painting the stock a s Cerakoting the barreled action. One of my favorite projects.

So granted I haven't owned any of these parts, but for the cheap option what about a 6.5 creed Ruger American Predator in a Magpul Hunter stock with something light like a Bushnell LRHS or Leupold Mark5? Middle of the road barrel contour, 22" middle of the road length, threaded, takes AI mags, pretty light overall.

Lots of options for most of your criteria, the real question is how far are you shooting at game and the size of said game. Lots of PRS rifles and calibers will put a mark on steel with great repeatability. Hunting is a whole different story.
Exactly my thoughts. If your talking 6.5 out of a 20" barrel my son's 260rem effective range is 1000 yards with a 142gr ABLR which requires 1300fps to do its job. This is quite low compared to other bullets the new ELD are 1800fps which would be @600 yards.

McMillan M40A1 stock, BDL, M40 contour barrel, 18” threaded, 7mm-08. Just waiting on my pre ordered Big Horn Origin action to show up. Had a similar set up years ago in a Remington. Figured it was time to do it up right. The 168 Berger classic hunters make 1,000 shots a joke. If it’s half the rifle the Remington was I’ll be a happy camper.

I think for a do it all the best barrel contour would be a Remington Sendero in a 6.5 creedmoor. I think the several suggestions for proof barrels are going to be expensive if you shoot comps. I would start there and then then try to make weight decisions based on that.

I keep thinking about a 708. Check out the 150 eldm. I could get the best numbers with them playing with a balistic calculator.

Eventual “plan” for my ideal “budget” one right now is:

FN Action or Still TBD
Manners EH1 stock with Minichassis or other bottom metal
24” barrel in 6.5 Creed OR 20” 308
Harris Bipod
SWFA 10X
