I just picked up a Rem 700 donor gun to build a custom 243 that will eventually be my daughters.

I was curious who all has one they built/had built. Anything from tactical to fancy bench rest guns. Post pics of what ya got along with specs please.

Thanks

I have something probably a little different that what you're thinking, but it's a fun rifle regardless.

SA 700, BDL bottom
Alaskan T.i. stock
Shilen #3 1-8"
243 AI chamber
It shoots the 105 A-Max and 80 TTSX nicely, and weighs about 8lbs with a scope.

Looking for anything in the 243 family. How do you like that stock?

Rob01 has a 243. Here's a post of it here:

Thanks that's pretty sweet.

Mines not finished yet but its a Surgeon 591, McMillan A3, Surgeon DBM, Jewell trigger, and Bartlein M24 contour 7.7 twist finished at 26 inches. GA Precision is building it and I can't wait!

Dang Son!! I really want to see pics of this beast when you get it in!

Mine is a DYI build.

Rem 40X
McMillan A5 bedded with MarineTex
Krieger 1.25" Straight 30" 1:7.5 twist
243 Win throated for 115 Dtac
Shilen BR trigger, no safety
Sniper Gray Cerakote

It was built for the Dtac but I have had great results with the 105 Amax, the last load I worked up with H4831SC averaged .142" with three 3 shot groups fired back to back.

Top-bottom 223AI, 243Win, 260Rem

That's a badass little maama-jaama right there.

Lay the smack down on most any critter like a lightning bolt...and weighs 8lbs with optics. Nice practical rifle right there.

I've been thinking about the same thing but possibli in 223. My daughter is 10 and will need a stock that I can shorten and adjust to her needs.

She has 1 requirement-- pink camo.

That's what I started on but decided on the 243 to push some 100gr pills.

I'm she if my daughter had a say so it would be pink too. She is only a month old so dad has time to build and play with it ;)

Thanks Turbo, it's a sweet little rig undoubtedly. It comes with me in the truck and on hikes mostly everywhere....

Next rifle I build will be a heavy 243 AI. It's simply an absolutely nasty little round and does a lot more than most folks would expect.

I shoot a GAP built 243. Templar Action, Manners T4A w/ mini chassis, Surefire 762SS suppressor, Bartlein Barrel. It really loves the 105gr Berger Hybrids.
I usually grab for it or the GAP built 6mm Creedmoor. :D

Here is mine. One of my favorites in my stable. Runs dtacs like a champ!

GAP built:

Rem 700 SA
Bartlein 25", 7.7 twist, #6 contour, threaded
Badger bolt knob
Badger lug
Badger M5 Bottom Metal
HS Precision Pro Series Adjustable stock
Timney trigger

What's the barrel life on a .243 ?

Like with any barrel in any caliber, too many variables to put a # on it. Velocity, powder burn rate, rate of fire, cleaning routine, all play a role. As I mentioned in the above post, I am sitting at about double what everyone tells you what to expect out of a 243, and my load is by NO means light, 115 BN coated DTACs at 3K fps.

Kirk R

Trued M700
Wyatt box
Old Rem trigger at 2lbs.
BDL bottom
Bartlein bull sporter 1:8 at 24" fluted and threaded 5/8x24
Graphite ceratote
Seekins base/rings
A1-3 McFlame

105 VLD/R22
