Guys I have been waiting on a barrel for my DPMS(308) for 2 years and I'm about fed up. I know why I've been waiting this long but I'm at wits-end; I mean 2 years for a barrel is ridiculous. So my question is who besides DPMS makes a barrel for this rifle and where can I get one.

GA Precision www.gaprecision.com can screw on a barrel for you. Most smiths can.

Rob I know who can do the work. That isn't the question. I just need to find a barrel. I ordered one from DPMS 2 years ago and haven't seen hide nor hair of it. Thus I'm looking to buy one elsewhere.

What I was saying is GAP has barrels in stock to install but if you want to go wait for another 6 months at a barrel maker than have at it. Sorry for trying to help. It won't happen again.

Did you call DPMS about your order? They have almost all of their 308 barrels in stock now. What caliber did you need?

Haven't called them. The order was placed through my smith and was supposed to drop shipped. I've asked my smith several times and all he has heard that that DPMS is still severely backlogged. Well guess that is one more call to place. And I'm looking for something chambered in 308 win.

Hey Longshot, I lived in Cape Conroe back in 2003, now I'm back in The Woodlands. I've got a DPMS SASS in 308 and was curious if this is what you had and what happened. I have heard of feeding probs w/ the LR 308, but I've not had any problems w/ the SASS. I go out to Gun Emporium to shoot but havenot been to Thunder on 1314 yet. Have you and if so what is your opinion about their facility? Thanks.

Mxer919 nothing happened to my rifle I've just been waiting on parts to complete it. All that I have left is to finish the upper, but between my other projects that I have going on and the Obama scare I just haven't been able to finish it yet.
To tell you the truth I don't use public ranges much anymore. They don't give you good opportunity to train (You fight like you train) & most are simply to short, about the only thing public ranges are good for are zeroing scopes. I have used Gun Emporium and it's alright but like I said I don't use public ranges much anymore.

FWIW Fulton Armory has 308 barrels in stock and they are Kreiger Criterion.I have a 22" on mine and it is a hammer....
Wondering if your 'smith is giving you a line though I don't know why.

I think they use Wilson blanks but do the rest themselves. Dont remember why I think that but I seem to remember being told that.

You might want to call DPMS ... i spoke with a DPMS Rep 3 weeks ago about getting another SASS .308 barrel and he said it was about a 6 month wait... I cant believe the 2 yr wait... something is wrong there IMO. I could be wrong though...

The bolts on Armalite and DPMS are the same pattern. The only difference is the DPMS bolt carrier is about .05 longer where the firing pin seats compared to Armalite. Armalite uses the rebound spring on their FPs and DPMS does not. Then there is the Upper Receiver being totally different.
Point is, you can interchange DPMS and Armalite barrels with their fitted bbl extensions, but barrel nut thread patterns are different.
Lots of vendors on the 10 forum on arf.com
Krieger and Noveske might also have barrels in stock. Why not learn to do your own switchbarrel? Nothing to it. Have fun!

Go to Krieger. I recently got a barrel from them for this same set up and have been nothing but satisfied. It cleans up like a dream, is dead on accurate and came in a very reasonable time. They have also made some changes recently to expedite the process even more. I was also completely saitisfed with their customer service. Just to give you an idea of accuracy, I have gotten more than one group that measures sub half MOA at 200yds with a couple of different load combinations while doing some load development. All that in spite of the unbelieveably heavy trigger from DPMS.
