We're thinking of bringing in the Hinterland Shooting Supply muzzle brake for the Tikka T3's but we want to see if there's any real interest in these. HSS claims that this brake will clamp onto a T3 Varmint barrel without threads, thereby negating the need to have a smith thread the muzzle. Is this something that interests you? Thanks,

Re: Who wants clamp on muzzle brake for Tikka T3

I'd be interested, but they don't make one for my barrel profile. I do like their bolt shroud and knob though(and purchased them from HSS a while back). I figured a clamp-on would be a decent option for the barrels used on the lite, and beretta USA already told me "nope, nuh uh, won't happen" when I asked them if I could just buy a threaded heavy barrel from them.

Re: Who wants clamp on muzzle brake for Tikka T3

Yeah they screw those barrels on super tight and glue them, so it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't sell a barrel. Liability is really a fun killer.

Someone just posted in the photos section that their clamp on brake shot off the end of the muzzle. I figured you could probaby get enough clamping force to keep it on there otherwise they wouldn't even make them.

Well, the actual response was that they don't even import them.

I have also seen reports of people shooting off clamped on brakes in the past as well, but it's not something I see being a common occurrence.

Oh well, makes for an excuse to pick up another tikka later on with a factory heavy barrel I suppose, then once I get my hands on that whiskey 3 chassis, the lite would end up back in it's original stock and the heavy barrel version in the chassis(hint).

Clamped brakes are fine on a .308. The Sako TRG and AI .338 LM rifles use clamped on brakes and I have not heard of issues with them. The nice thing about clamped brakes is that you do not need to use specialized washers to time the brakes. With a clamped brake you simply just position the brake to where you want it and clamp it down.

The brake actually looks pretty nice.

The new surefire brake for the TRG/Tikka Tactical looks nice too.

In my early days I had a FAL that I put a clamp on brake on. First shot took the brake along for the ride, never to be found again. I don't care how precise they are, I wouldn't trust a near $200 brake to just be friction attached. Just my .02

That is incorrect. Look at Roedales brakes designed by Pete Lincoln above. He makes one model that is solely a clamp on, and it works very well.

Re: Who wants clamp on muzzle brake for Tikka T3

I most likely will be buying a clamp on break in the very near future as I've contacted a local smith and they have yet to get back to me. IDK if there is something difficult about working on a Tikka or if they are just that covered up but I'm not going to wait much longer. I'll be sure to start up a new thread and link to here once I do with a full report.

Re: Who wants clamp on muzzle brake for Tikka T3

We've sold hundreds and hundreds of clamp on ( only clamp, no thread) brakes. We haven't had a single brake come of that couldnt be put down to uses error. If you measure your barrel correctly, select the correct size of brake and then follow the mounting instructions, and dont use it on calibers it wasn't designed for you should have no problem with a clamp on brake.

Some of our brakes are additionaly threaded as well as clamped, 5/8x24 or M18x1 or M18x1.5 for example. they certainly arent going anwhere once fitted.

It is correct that the Sako TRG's use a clamp style brake ( if the rifle is a non threaded model) the single clamping screw does however sit in a canelure that is machined around the barrel, thus preventing for or aft movement of the brake.

Ive converted some of our brakes by way of the addition of a pin to perform the same task as the screw on the TRG brake, In this case we have clampend and pinned them onto .408 Chey-Tac.. with no problem at all.

Clamp brakes work. if you dont want to, or can't legaly thread your muzzle, they are an option for you to reduce recoil.

personaly my barrels all have muzzle threads, but i swap between brakes and suppressors.

I just checked them out, seems to be very thorough and straight forward with their listings. The price for the clamp on that I looked at was $115. He had a couple for $75 but they were for a threaded design. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Heck ya we're interested in a clamp on brake. I surely would prefer that to threading the barrel. Bring them on!
