Gunsmithing Why are the sling studs on the bottom?

I am new, just purchased a Sauer 100 Pantera in 6.5 CM. It has two studs in the fore end and one in the rear. All studs are on the bottom of the stock. My sling, which I think is a common one, the V-TAC from Viking, recommends a stud on the side on the fore end and on top of the butt. I understand why, as the rifle hangs in an ungainly position with the sling attached where the studs are. What are the manufacturers envisioning as the use for the stud mounts on the bottom (besides a bipod for the front)? They could place them anywhere, so there must be a reason for placing them on the bottom.

If you look at several older designs you'll see sling point locations shift to the side of the forearm or side of the stock. Most of the locations were "comfort" when moving from place to place. For example there are several that place the rear sling point on the left side (smooth side) of the rifle but still have the front point on the bottom. Muzzle down and smooth side to the back for carry. SKS's did side forward and I've seen side and bottom rear on different versions. Side forward made it part of the gas block and eliminated a separate part. I think the Germans did side and side in WWII on sub machine guns.

You put a tactical sling on a hunting rifle. Hunting rifles are typically carried slung over the shoulder, either muzzle up or down, not cross body as you would a fighting gun. Shooting with sling support works better with the front stud in the bottom as well.

The German army figured out it's much more comfortable to have the rifle slung over or across the shoulder with the left side of the stock flat against your back instead of having the trigger guard (and later detachable magazine) digging into you, which is what happens when the sling attaches to the bottom of the rifle.
