Dear Community !

i recently planned to buy a LRF and was about to go for a Bushnell Fusion. Just wanted to share with you my thoughts, and what i finally chose to buy.

It was clear to me, that if i was going to shoot further than 300 meters, that i was goingt to need a LRF. As i was also lacking a pair of functioning binoculars, the Bushnell Fusion seemed like a pretty good combination. Also the outstanding ranging capabilities impressed me vey much.

The only thing i was not sure about were :
1. Am i going to be satisfied with the Bushnell optical perfomance ?
2. Do i really want one unit that combines binos and LRF , or is it more convenient to have two units to choose from, according to requirements ?

After doing a lot research on the web, i settled on the following purchases :

1. Bushnell Legen Arc 1200
2. Fujinon FMTRSX-2

In combination, these two items cost a bit less than the Fusion.

The reason i went this way is the following:
1.Very often, i will also just need binoculars, without LRF and the other way around also. So no problem having two units.
2. The optical perormance of the Fujinon is absolutels outstanding AND doesnt't fall far short of the performance ofSwarovski EL Series. (I made a side to side comparison with a birdwatching friend who owns the 8.5x42 EL Swaro)
The only downside of the Fuji, is its bulkiness and weight which doesn't bother me at all (Although, had i the money i would def. go for the Swaro)
3. The ranging capability of the Legend 1200 is more than enough for me. Yesterday i was out for testing the LRF. I got repeatable rangings to up to 1262 METERS !!!! (Around 1400 yards). And that were trees that i was aiming at.

I hope that this might be helpful to you. I have to say that i am absolutely happy with these two purchases. Regarding the optical performance of the fusion.... actually i did not have any first hand information ( i did not look through them myself) but from the info that i gathered on the net, i had the impression, that it is not bad, but also not comparable to high qualitiy binos (Zeiss, Leica, Swaro...). So you might probably take alook through the fusions yourself and check if the optical quality is enough to make you happy.

All the best

Re: Why i did not buy a Bushnell Fusion

I think the ARC1600's I've looked through are as good as the optics in most LRF's.

I think expecting Swaro image quality out of a Bushnell binocular (LRF or not) is uhhh, expecting Swaro image quality out of a Bushnell-it ain't happening!

Thanks for the input.

FWIW:

I recently purchased a Leica 1600 Rangemaster LRF. It turned out that it was probably a bad unit, it seems they did not make some of the inital units properly.

I was so annoyed I opted to take a good look at the Bushnell Fusion binocs. What stuck me is that the glass wasn't really great, which was disappointing because they are made in Japan... so I was hoping that maybe Japan Optics or someone made the glass.

Interestingly, I did check out the Bushnell Elite 1600 ARC that recently came out (there is a version without the ARC part).

I've been testing it ALL week to see how well it works in mid-day sunlight (high noon) and with extreme heat (as is vapor trails due to heat).

I've been able to get it to range (correctly) a train signal 1100 yards away consistantly... with the vapor trails (heat marage) [sp].

I've also been able to get it to range small objects almost as far in the same conditions.

While the glass is not up the Leica, the unit gives your firing angle and consistantly ranges over 1000 yards without issue in the worst of conditions.

Moreover, if you HOLD the ranging button down, it will persistantly ping the target to get a range.

It looks like a very good bang for the buck.

I rate the glass as good to better than good. Not Leica, S&B, or Zeiss good... but good.

I'll post a review once I get the parameter mapped out and drawn out on Google Earth.
