I used to have a XD9 Subcompact, and a XD45 Compact. I shot a few thousand rounds through each and never had a single failure (brass cased ammo). Both were more accurate than I could shoot. For me the only negative was the high bore height, but it's not a big deal. Honestly I don't think there's a lot of talk about them because they're reliable, and not super sexy, so they don't generate a lot of discussion.
I have a slightly modified XDm 10mm. I went to but a Glock 40 MOS when I saw the XDm. After comparing, I brought the XD home. I feel I made the better buy.
My brother shoots both an XD and carries an XDS. I have shot them and can say there’s no reason not to have one. My brother has thousands of rounds through his without a single hiccup.
The grip does not offend my disfigured hand The grip safety is a non issue for me. I have had 1911”s needing grip safety fit work done. Schwartz design that would drop the hammer on a blocked pin.

Agree on the trigger. That was my first mod. I put in a PRP extreme trigger. Now it is a nice, crisp 2.75# with a lot less pre and post travel. It is about as good as a striker fired trigger can get.
Yes it does. It is light enough that it takes some getting used to but there is a defined wall.
I would rather have a sig226 glock19 or cz sp01 myself.
Comparing Sig, Springfield, CZ, Glock, etc. is like comparing Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. They all make pretty amazing products, they all have minor pros/cons but they're not really a big deal.. There really is no bad choice in this tier of handguns. A bad choice would be High Point or Taurus...
Exactly. Everyone has their personal preferences, but there are hundreds of thousands of Fords, Dodges, and Chevys getting the job done across the country every day, just like there are probably hundreds of thousands of Glocks, Springfields, S&Ws etc doing the same thing.
I need to give my old sun compact some love however it still shoots solid for a 3" 40cal. Always ran well. They run some good deals throughout the year.
I have an XDs in 45 auto as my carry gun and I love it. Always been reliable. I think I like it because I have shot it a ton and am used to it.
It's kind of like if you have never looked through a ZCO or TT.....don't do it.....because then you'll know what you're missing and won't stop thinking about it until you get one. That's why I am sticking with my XDs.

I appendix carry a 3.3” 9mm XDS and I have a xdm 4.5” 40 s&w. Both pistols have never given me any issues. I shoot the xds more than my xdm but they still see use pretty often. I of course have a couple glocks as well. I try to train with blocks more because that is what I carry on duty.

The wife has an XD9 for her carry and I shoot it from time to time and I really enjoy it. I will even carry it for a change of pace everyone once in a while and while the grip safety isn't ideal for me I really enjoy the gun and its been dead reliable for many years.
I needed an out the box competition gun for my wife to shoot 3 gun and uspsa and it happened to be the same year they came out with the xdm 5.25. Put a powder river trigger in it like others and the gun rocks! She shoots it extremely well and uses the holster and mag pouch it came with. The best part for me is besides the trigger mod and buying a couple extra mags all I’ve had to do for years of competition shooting is make sure she knows where the ammo is at, don’t recall her ever even having so much as a single malfunction. This year I’ve been trying to get her to replace her p238 with a hellcat but she does like carrying the sig only cause it’s smaller and she’s tiny.

Granted not the best trigger.
The xds 45 is pretty snappy but not purchased as a range toy.
It is my wifes pdw on body gun.
Compleatly disappears in a bustenhalter fem featal rig.
And yes she is competent with it.
Started with xdm upon initial release.

If you’re asking whether I considered the possibility that he sabotaged his own hypothetical, I did not.
Have carried my XD40 4” on-duty for 8 years now. Average between 2-3k rounds a year over that time. Love the natural grip and the trigger is a little mushy but plenty acceptable. My only complaint has been the 12rd capacity is pretty stunted compared to other polymer service guns. Lowest capacity I’m aware of on my department besides one guy running a 1911.
I have heard the complaints about the grip safety from folks before. I’ve challenged multiple people to take any grip they feel they can hold onto through recoil and get the gun to refuse to fire. It’s not possible, making the argument moot IMO. You cannot have any kind of reasonably controlled grip on the gun (where you could expect to build enough rearward pressure on the trigger with opposing force from your palm moving forward through the rear of the grip to expect the firearm to fire) and not have the gun fire. The trigger and grip safety work through opposing forces in concert.
The Mod 2 “Grip Zone” is gay as hell...
At 10 years of service, I plan to retire my XD and move to a G17; 9mm recoil, huge capacity increase, and mag compatibility with the majority of my shift. Love my XD40, but it just makes sense (except having to buy a bunch of new holsters).

Ask national level trainers who see thousands of various handguns come through their courses every year. Those I've spoken with say they historically have seen more catastrophic failures on XDs than other service pistol types.

My son was popo and did not have to run a glock but was advised too.
He showed up to qualify with his new xd still in the box on a day
that was pissing rain and sleet.
They were going to cancell qualls but he said it was his only time available
So they said go for it boy laughing.
He held second best time on the swat team records even while eating sleet.
Some of the guys said fuck that xd.
Team leader said who the fuck trained you? To my son.
He had some high level training in the .mil.
I would like to take credit but I was only an enabler in his younger days.
Now he wants to shoot more prs and has a very good mentor.
I load and bench shoot test ammo just good enough to keep him on his toes.

I've got an original XD9. It's chewed up close to 2K steel cased rounds within the last month that I've had it, without a single hiccup. It's comfortable to shoot, and I don't even notice the grip safety. Nice trigger, nice shooter.
I’ve always shot the XD series really, really well. I’m the biggest Glock fanboy who doesn’t own one — I just can’t shoot them well and gave up awhile ago.
A PF9 and an XDS split carry duties for me and have for about 5yrs. I take the XDS when I can take the weight. Grip safety is a plus on a carry gun with almost no negative in other uses IMO.
I bought a 5.25 XDM a couple years ago to fit in the IDPA box and it shoots REAL well. Full PRP setup on that puppy with a 3.25lbs trigger (confirmed, they hit the weight to the oz). I shoot it much better, especially on the draw, than any Glock.
An old stainless XD9 has been protecting my Mom for the better part of a decade and I thank it for that. She shoots it well and isn’t afraid of it, unlike her previous shrouded revolver.
They aren’t perfect or the best but I really like the XD series.

The rso came outside and asked where the round went and I showed him. I told him if it happens again I would return fire and kept smoking my cigarette .

I bought a 9mm HS2000 for 180 bucks and four extra mags for 35 dollars at a gunshow it was an ok gun, then the HS2000 were gone and Springfield came out with the XD, with only an engraving name change the price increased 125%, the gun rags all raved about it, the XD was the pistol of the year, an XD IMHO is a 225 dollar pistol.
I have a xd45c and have not one bad thing to say about it. 2500 rounds, zero issues. I bet my life on it.
I really like the XD’s. I have a slight preference for the S&W M&P 2.0 because they have better stippling, better trigger and a thumb safety.
The trigger is really close in shootability. For these reasons, I sold my XD 9, but kept my xd45 5” and added a m&p 40 in 5”.

I don't need to ask anybody, I base my decisions on first hand experience.
I've got thousands of rounds through my XDM without a single jam. I shoot it well, and see no reason to change.
The trainers can run what they want, just as I do.
I'm a pretty dedicated Glock guy but had a chance to shoot the XDM 10mm along with my G20 a few months back and, soon after, bought an XDM 5.25 10mm. It shoots around 1.5"-2" at 50 yards (off a rest) and with selected ammo about an inch. So, accuracy is on par with my Glock. It's been 100% reliable with everything I've put through it - as has my Glock. I know several shooters using the XD's in 10, 40 and 9 and have not heard a single complaint. I have zero regrets on the purchase. JMHO
Glock is the best selling of the plastic guns and I have a few but I love XD's, here in CA we can't buy the XDM but that would be my choice, the newer Elite model has the nice trigger from the factory. I have owned a 4" 40 cal and the compact 9mm, both were great, I currently have 2 of 5" Tactical models, one in 40 and one in 45, I love the grip safety, other useful features are the loaded chamber indicator (way more pronounced than Glocks version) and the cocked striker nub that protrudes from the rear of the slide. The bigggest advantage for me is the takedown lever on the left side, I use a thumbs forward grip and that lever is a perfect place for my left thumb to sit on, it helps keeps the muzzle down when shooting, I have several thousand rounds through my various XD's. Like most polymer guns they are very reliable, they sell for less than a Glock too. If it fits you but it, you will have no regrets.
I have a post HS200 pre grip zone XD and it is the most unreliable pistol I have. My Glocks, CZ SP01 are more reliable and even the Diamondback DB9 FS I had was more reliable and they were noted as being horribly unreliable. That being said it might just be a problem with mine because everybody I know that has a XD loves them and has no problem with them. Hell, my dads XD shoots better than his Sig P229. So I guess you just need to get one and go for it see how it works for you.
