Why the difference in these two match ammo's?

In the process of round eval for my new stick. So while looking at a single round of REM PREMIER MATCH 168 MATCHKING BTHP and a single round of HORNADY MATCH 168 BTHP, I noticed a big difference in the shoulder height on the beveled edge around the rim of the case. So I ask, why the difference?

Re: Why the difference in these two match ammo's?

Well I was sure hoping there was more to it than just being from two different manufacturers. I was thinking that it would have to affect something, to cause a difference in the two. Whether that be powder fill level, the way it seats, gas/combustion, etc. Maybe I'm just overthinking it. Thanks.

I do not have confirmation of this!

However, I have been told by a reliable source awhile back that the difference is due to the new SASS style rifles.

The brass has been shown to eject better out of the Semi-style rifles. Thus the difference!

Take it for what its worth! .02

A pic would help. From your description, it sounds like you're talking about the angled cutout area that leads from the inner diameter just above the extractor "rim", that extends forward to meet the full diameter of the case body.

How *much* difference can help us *speculate*. This drawing in the Sierra manual http://www.6mmbr.citymaker.com/f/Sierra308Win.pdf doesn't show that detail. The drawing in QuickLOAD shows a 36° angle but does not show the *tolerances* for that angle or the +/- values for any of the dimensions.

What I'm referring to is an external dimension, and the web is "thick" enough (extends far enough forward from the headstamp) that you would have to get an extreme deviation to compromise the casehead strength.
