Wife kicked my ass

LOL zero'd my new 300wsm today, then let my wife shoot some. Gave her a little run-down of building a position, shot prep, making the shot and follow thru. Well, she did everything I told her and shot better than I did today at 100y. So, we put two big shoot-n-see's up, moved back to 400m. dialed what strelok said we should at 439y and each fired 3 rounds. We drove back down to the burm (no way to see the hits on the shoot-n-see's due to mirage), and she succinctly kicked my ass....shooting a quarter minute 3 shot group at 400 fucking meters. (her first time at anything beyond 100yds) So, I plan on taking her to some matches!! lol

Well I can at least take some solace in that I have taught her some good fundamentals, which she picked right up on. We moved back to the 400m line because she shot a ragged hole at 100y. I was duly impressed as we drove up on the target stand and I could just start to make out the holes - and then when I saw her little, itty bitty group, I was quite impressed. So, the 300wsm my be her match gun since she did so well with it - dammit.

An instructor a pistol class I took one time said most of the time girls will shoot better after instruction because they dont have the ego that us guys do getting in the way..


Needless to say, Tell her thats kick ass shooting..

The comment from the instructor was pretty accurate. I've seen it several times during classes that I've run.

One of the sayings that I picked up from a mentor and use frequently is, "Guys come out of the womb thinking they can Drive, Shoot, and Fuck and they're usually wrong!".

Your wife is a natural.

i've always thought they shoot better b/c they squeeze the trigger slowly since most girls have a weaker handgrip. most guys have large variance due to jerking the trigger

Outstanding group! You'll definitely have to get the wife out shooting more with you this year.

I've found it's not just women who generally shoot better. It's people that listen (great coaching graewolf). Because, those that 'already know it' don't listen, and those that 'don't really care' don't listen either. On Ladies Night at our gun club I've certainly had my share of women who shot WAY better than they ever thought. But, then again, I've had women who didn't even know you are supposed to move the gun around until the crosshairs come on to the target. Right after I explained how to do it. Again, some women would step right up to the bench and shoot a 1/2" group the first time at the bench.

My best coaching job was a friend of my neighbors kid. His first time shooting a rifle was with my .223 Savage. He shot a .139" @ 100.

Love it. I remember going to the range with a a couple of friends. We all took turns shooting his .38 Detective Special at 10 yards.

I hit the paper.

He kept the shots in a nice 6" group.

His wife (who had fired a gun maybe 10 times in her life) put six shots inside of 2". Then did it again.

I'm definitely taking her out more. We can rock-paper-scissors for the 300wsm or the 22-250 at some local BR matches if I cant shoot my 338LM. After the 100yd grp (which was smaller than mine as well) we moved back to my 400m mark and driving up to the targets after 3 rnds each she says to me, "Are you gonna be mad if I shot better than you from there?" I told her Hell No! We both were pretty excited when got up to where we could see the hits. I thought she did awesome, I was impressed to say the least. If she can keep that up, we'll do just fine! lol

Now we gotta work on getting her to dial the scope correctly and reading wind and she'll be gtg (mostly)

I met a guy from TN who was working on leg points for a DR badge. Seems his wife had earned enough leg points to be awarded the badge; and, this made it, as it appeared, difficult for the guy. He just put too much pressure on himself. As I understand it, the guy finally got the badge and I'm glad for him, since he was really bothered by it all.

Yep, my wife hates guns. Her friend just visited and she never shot a gun before so I brought them out to fire off some rounds. Needless to say both chicks embarrassed me to the point where I looked like a one legged midget in an ass kicking contest.
