You will experience lead and carbon buildup in your centerfire can, but that can be removed with an ultrasonic cleaner, using popular chemical mixes, etc. Or you can mostly blow it out with high pressure rounds afterward.

Yup...it will work...but your can will lead up. If it's servicable (you can take it apart) or you are willing to send it in to the manufacturer for cleaning...have at it. Otherwise, a dedicated servicable can for .22LR is highly recommended.
