Will a .308 1/12 twist rate shoot 150gr good!.

I was planning to shoot 150 grain gameking's in my sps varmint. I hear some say they will stabilize I hear some say the wont. What do yo think? I wont this as a hunting load, and have already bought powder plus the bullets. Will they stabilize and shoot ok. I think they will but dont hurt to ask>>>

You will hear a lot of things. It's your job to consider the source of what you hear. Try it and see. No reason they wouldn't. What do you think: Should they stabilize, and why or why not?

Some of the barrel manufacturers provide guidance on their websites. Shilen Rifles, for example, has the following, which suggests that you should be able to stabilize the 150. I suggest you Google "rifle barrel twist charts" or something substantially similar to get a better comfort level.

.308
- 8" for bullets heavier than 220gr.
- 10" for bullets up to 220gr.
- 12" for bullets up to 170gr.
- 13"* Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 14"* for bullets up to 168gr.
- 15"* for bullets up to 150gr.
- 17"* for bullets up to 125 gr.

I have a 1-12 twist Hart barrel on my 308 win, and it shoots Sierra 165's very well. But as sai above proof will be when you shoot some.

Twist-rate charts based solely on bullet weight can be misleading. Twist should be matched to bullet length (meaning bearing surface) more than weight.

Dont know where you heard that BS from but a 178HPBT will stabilize in my SPSS 12 twist. Oh, use upwards of 47grs RE15 for that gameking, with that load and 155AMAXs it shoots very well in both of my 308s, one has a 10 twist, one has a 12 twist.

Thats funny! Ill stop shooting my 178s with this info, Shilen also told me 6mmRems wont shoot in the 3s, hhahahaha

That was reason i was asking to many debates and charts on what I can and can't shoot so I ask. Thanks for the info. I got a hundred of them I believe i will just shootem (cant hurt anything)

150gr 308wins will stablize fine out of a 1 in 12"

You have to calculate the R.P.M. If it is above 185,000, the bullet will stabilize nicely. So, it is a function of your specific twist and velocity. Generally speaking, any 150 Grain bullet should be accurate in a 1 in 12" twist barrel @ reasonable velocities. Subject to the quality of the specific barrel, of course. BB
