I've been looking to trade someone my M4 308 stock for a A2 for my AR308. I just had a guy on another forum offer to give me a A2 he has laying round. I dont know it its a 308 A2 or a 5.56. Is there any difference between the 2? I've been checking google and see yes and no but no one really seems to know for sure.

All I know is the 308 uses hgeavier springs. Will my M4 springs work in the A2 if its comparable with my 308 build?

I'm on a DPMS pattern if it means anything.

Yes, they are the same. Same stock, same rifle buffer tube. The AR10 uses the same spring for rifle and carbine, but different buffers.

You need the stock, a rifle buffer tube, and an AR10 rifle buffer. Use your same spring.

The A2 stock and rifle receiver extension will work with no problems.
You will need a new AR10 buffer and spring. The AR10 buffer is shorter and the spring is a little longer.
Check here heavybuffers.com.

Here is a photo. (Not mine.) AR10 buffer and spring is on the bottom.

+1 on the above.

The A2 stock body and rifle-length receiver extension (buffer tube) are identical and can be exchanged between AR-15 and large-frame AR platforms.

You will just need to get the appropriate .308 rifle-length buffer and rifle-length buffer spring. Here are links (from just one source) for the parts you'll need:

Buffer - http://www.brownells.com/rifle-part...prod42989.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR xzzx308&psize=96

Spring - http://www.brownells.com/rifle-part...prod42988.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR xzzx308&psize=96

And in case you don't do the trade deal...here's a link to a complete .308 A2 buttstock assembly that includes everything you need (except for the tools necessary to remove your CAR stock and install the A2): DPMS Buttstock Assembly LR-308 A2 Synthetic Charcoal

ETA: Fixed links...sorry for any confusion.

Awesome ok cool thanks for the responses guys.

Again since it was being given to me I didn't asks questions. But I just assumed it was a 5.56 and wanted to be sure it was even usable. Reason I didn't post it on that forum to possibly offend him asking.

But I'll see when I get it if it's the 308 spring and buffer if not I won't have a issue picking up that part set. At least to hold me over for the UBR.

I had another question I'm PLANNING on getting the JP low bass BCG and recoil assembly to cut the recoil when I get the funds. Should and could I buy that buffer and spring weight for the JP LMBCG and not run into issues with my standard 308 CMMG BCG?

I don't want my gun to beat it self to drag by taking a short cut but if it will work fine I wouldn't mind cutting the corner and buying the Low mass spring set up from the get to and have it ready when I go JP than buy a buffer set and then end up buying another in a few months.
