Hello,

I may be moving to the Wilmington area for a job and was wondering if someone is in the area and could maybe fill me in on local weapons laws and if there is any place to shoot near by. If it helps I am from SC and don't really know much about the area other than it can be cold as hell.

Thanks,

Michael

I just saw this thread. Not much in the way of places to shoot near Wilmington. DNREC runs Ommelanden Range just south of New Castle on RT 13. I've never shot there but don't hear much good about it. $2.50 for 1/2 hr, crowded, lots of complaints about range masters. There might be something in nearby Maryland. Member Blueclawz could tell you more about Md. I believe the best opportunity in Delaware is the the Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club http://www.bville-rifle-pistol.org 100, 200, 300, 600, and 1000 yard lines. Indoor and outdoor pistol. It is about 70 miles south of wilmington.
Being from SC you might think its cold but the last couple of winters have been very mild. Essentially we have two seasons, hot wet and cold wet. Pretty gun friendly until the Conn. shooting. Our Governor and Atty General have AR 15s and magazines of more than 10 directly in the crosshairs. Our AG is Joe Bidens kid. (Brain cells are getting spread mighty thin in that gene pool) PM me if I can help answer any other questions

Heck! Just move a few miles north of Wilmington into Pa. There are a few private ranges, but I know membership is currently closed at Atglen. Atglen goes out to 500 meters. Either Delaware County Field and Stream (in PA) or Southern Chester County Sportsmans Club (also in PA) probably have openings but they are limited to 100 yards.
For indoor pistol, Targetmaster is only a few miles north of Wilmington on route 202 (in PA). Gun laws are pretty good in PA for a northeastern state.

Good luck!

I lived in New Castle, DE for a couple years about 5 miles from the Omalanden range. Decent sporting clays range. 50yd. semi-covered pistol range. I don't remember the costs but I do remember one of the range officers that thought he, was a member of special forces. Told a novice shooter that asked a simple question that if he didn't know the answer he had no business being there. That was long ago though, about 20 years. Can't speak to current conditions.
