Does anyone know what powder and how much powder these rounds are loaded with?

What kind of velocity are you guys seeing? Im running a 24in barrel but no chrono yet.

I bought 200 of them to sight in and do a little practice with, and Im wondering if I can duplicate the same load Winchester uses.

You could duplicate the load, but it's nothing special. It is a good over-the-counter round for a gas gun, as it is loaded to the equivalent of military ball ammo. It is relatively cheap and is fine for practice, but it's easy to load up more accurate ammo using a true match bullet. The FMJ bullets are not in the same league as a Sierra Matchking or Hornady A-max.

I realize that im just wondering what powder is used. It seemed like a good light recoil round I can let my son shoot.

Ammunition companies don't release this infomation because a) they view it as proprietary vis-a-vis their competitors and b) because they 'usually' don't buy off the shelf canister powders like you and I.

They have a bullet that's going to do X, Y or Z at A, B or C velocities and then they ask the powder companies to blend a mix to achieve that velocity. If the ammo will see extreme temperatures, that might be a factor to consider for the powder company. If 'flash' is an issue, as with NATO/Mil type rounds, they might ask for more flash retardant.

They're not calling up Alliant and asking for two tanker trucks full of RL-15 and in the odd chance they do go with a common commercial brand, they're not telling us.

Try to clock some of your loaded rounds. Buy some Winchester 147gr FMJ/BT bullets, reuse your brass and buy some Winchester primers and you should be able to get 'there', even experimenting with crimping, as that ammo is no doubt crimped. You might even buy some Winchester 748 powder to start with, lol!

If you want a cheap way to duplicate the load get some IMR 4895 or 4198 or BLC-2 and work a load from that.

Cheap surplus bullets from grafs or wideners or pats reloading and surplus military powder is probably the absolute cheapest thing you can do.

I loaded 150 mil surp bullets with 45gr of BLC-2 into a friend's 308. They shot very well for what they were, charge quality control is probably the biggest improvement you're getting.

Top Cat<
the round is good in warm weather for plinking however, in cold weather we are seeing a LOT of failure to cycle gas guns of various types (at least in last years lot) works fine in bolt guns but M1A and ar 10 platforms owners have reported cycleing issues far too frequently to us (a retail store) for me to be comfortable trusting it.
YMMV

its plinking ammo to me in an rebarreled mauser. I couldnt buy the components for what the cost of 200 loaded rounds. It just seemed like my rifle liked them pretty well.

Re: Winchesters 7.62 nato white box?

Saw some of that ammo at the range yesterday. Guy shooting a SOCOM. I was impressed with how sexy the rifle looked, but not with how it shot, or at least the way he was shooting. He was a newbie, so I gave him a fundamental lecture on the 8 steady hold factors, and proper sight alignment, and picture.

I don't know what ammo cost out west, MO, but I can load cheaper than buying local surplus, Even with the inflated price of powder down here, as long as I order the bullets from Mid-South or someplace. Economy is what surplus is about, right?

Howdy, what did you pay for that 200 rounds, just in case I have my headspace and timing, off, a bit?

Re: Winchesters 7.62 nato white box?

139.95 or so for 200 rounds from midway. 200 pcs of brass would run around 78 and about 40 for the fmj. I figured it was a good way to build a brass supply while being able to shoot alitte. Then ill reaload it the way I want.

Re: Winchesters 7.62 nato white box?

I see your rationale, now. I was shooting Berger 168 hpbt moly's until my local shop went to $54 a hundred. Then I went to Mis-South for the Nos. Comps in 168. .78 a shot seemed out of the way to me, so I'm down to about .56 and going lower when I order 1K. Not sure about your shipping cost, but the .70 you're shooting for beats mine with the "gold plating" that must be in the newly priced moly's. Same situation with RL-15 locally, $34 and change a pound. fortunately that 8 lb can of IMR 4064 I bought years ago was stored properly. 42.5 & 43 works for my AR-10 and 40X respectively. Even found that 26 grs. stuffed under a 69 gr. Nos Comp .223, will shoot 5 shot ragged holes at 100. But what a pain to trickle .223.

Love those guys who don't load. Once fired brass is free, except for humbly asking what they're going to do with that brass on the ground. Got all that white box .762 brass yesterday, and it's tumbling, as I post.

Good shooting!
