Windham weaponry SRC .308

Has anyone had a chance to shoot one of these rifles?I held one the other day at the shop.It is a lighter in weight than most .308 platforms.I saw the review on the net from SHOT.I would like some real world input one accuracy.If any one has one of these please post pics of groups and an overall review.Thanks in advance Richard

It looks like just a bare minium .308 with regular handgaurds and stock. You can achieve the same with just about any .308 rifle if you go with the KISS route. Especially for MSRP of $1,400-$1,500 I would not consider it a good deal at all. Both CMMG and DPMS offers so much more for the same price without any sacrafice in weight especially if you compare to the DPMS Gen II AP4 Models.

It is what it is. Windham is a solid company. IMO its a great start for whatever type of build you want your AR10 type rifle to be.

I just picked one up, and so far am very impressed. great fit and finish, I did barrel break-in over the last 2 days, will be shooting for groups next week. Very well balanced gun, lightweight, no malfunction to report.

I'm new here, this is my 1st post.

I'm not new to guns, but new to the AR platform. I have several handguns (and a SOCOM 16 with an EoTech 512), and I favor nice 1911's. I just purchased a Windham Weaponry AR-10, at my LGS. I also purchased Nikon glass. My shooting buds are AR geeks, so I'll be on the stupid end of the learning curve to start, but with expert advise. I also got a muzzle brake, rings, a better BB for our commie Gov laws here, and it will all be installed when I pick it up. I don't have much time to make an educated decision as I am anal about researching stuff, and I'm time limited as I have several "issues" right now.

So, for the money ($2250 OTD) I'll get some AR time & exposure, and learn more as I shoot. Sounds dumb, I can't argue. I'll just have to buy something *nicer* when I know what I want. The owner of the LGS, who knows me, said he was extremely impressed by his customers bringing back holes in paper, and recommended it over more expensive models I foundled. I had a wide choice, but before I can knowledgably know - and search - for what I really want, I got something to throw lead immediately, at the cost of a perspective scope...I paid for this entire package, what I was planning on for glass...cart before the horse, oh well.

I'll post an initial report after it's out of jail, and I break in the barrel.

The Wyndham is a good rifle. Not a $2000 or a $3k Custom unit. But a good solid rifle that works well for the money. I guess SRC stands for Site Ready Carbine as it has no sites so optics are necessary. I have one myself. Not in .308 though. I'm impressed with how well it handles a high rate of fire. Since it's not my Black Rain or Sig(both .308), I figured I could afford to have some fun and take a chance I wouldn't wreck anything. I picked up a Slidefire stock at Cabela's for about $360. It allows you to fire your fully legal semi-automatic AR style rifle as fast as humanly possible. I have to say it put a smile on my face wider than the first string of Blackcats I ever lit off. The spent casings came out at such amazing speed, after 12 full mags, 6 on a Saturday and 6 more the next day, the finish has gotten chipped off the receiver deflector bump to the rear of the ejection port. It took a little practice to maintain a string of fire, but once I got used to how the stock worked it was fun. I was able to maintain all but a couple rounds in the torso portion of a man size target with a little forward lean. Certainly not a cost conscious way to fire your weapon. But if you need to relieve a little stress and put a smile on your face, it's definitely on my top two list.

Just a note. The Slidefire stock comes with a letter from the BATF, stating that the stock is considered an accessory. Not a NFA regulated part. So it's completely legal because there are no moving parts and your trigger finger is what actuates the trigger. Cool. But beware. Some states have there own spin on that. So you might want to discretely inquire before you get one. I guess if you have a Cabela's near you and it's in stock, they must be okay in your state.
