My wife pointed out that I always leave my contacts in when I shoot. I've also shot with my glasses on. Wondering how you guys with contacts or glasses shoot? With or without them? Just curious

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

NOT! I have taken several rifle schools. When I use my scoped rifle I do not wear my lenses, however I can correct my vision by using the focus knob on my scope. I have had no problems out to 1000 yards. Iron open sights...I need corrective lenses for anything "small" out past 200 yards.....

The way I figure it is If I need to wear lenses to drive out to the range I might as well leave them in.

I always wear my glasses shooting. Never shoot without eye protection.

I'm with Rob here.

I have found that if my glasses start to slip a little, and I'm aiming through the top of the lens, it causes some parallax error. Just a warning. Like everything else... every shot has to be exactly the same or you can expect different results.

If you're going to wear contact, wear safety glasses. I vented a case last year a got a mark on my glasses.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

My father wore glass but always corrected with adjustment on scope when shooting with one. I got a good shooting buddy here and he shoots with corrected lenses (glasses) and does not use the adjustment in scope.

Disclaimer: for safety shooting glasses should be worn.

Same here. I always wear eye protection. It has saved my eys on more than 1 occasion.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

Yep, my prone position/cheekweld usually ends up with me looking through the top edge of my corrective glass lens. Add some sweat and the splipslidin' begins.

So I bought a pair of drugstore readers closest to the right prescription (I'm farsighted), and dedicated them for shooting. I then adjusted the nose pads to raise the lens height so I'm looking through an area of the lens that's closer to its optical center.

Optical sights are designed to be adjustable, so using corrective lenses is an optional thing. I figure the corrective lenses bring my vision back into the average realm, making my scopes easier for others to use as well, once they're adjusted to correspond with my glasses.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

My vision has degraded to the point where I don't ever not have them on. I also have tried contacts and I can NOT put them in my eyes. Fortunately my job pays for safety glasses, and over the years the safety frames have become fashionable enough that every pair of glasses I wear inside and out of work are safety glasses.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

I am lucky enough to be a very comfortable contact lens wearer. I wear them 100% of the time for shooting and hunting. My eyes are bad enough that I need correction to do most anything. With work I am inside to outside many times a day and the contacts make the sunglass situation much more manageable as well.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

i feel bad for you guys. i don't know what it is like to have bad eyes i just had mine checked and was told i have better than 20/20
im 35 and hope i have many more good years.

i rely came on here to suggest corrective surgery it does work. my wife just had it done for the price of a good rifle.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

Contacts with shooting/safety glasses works best for me. My vision is poor enough that shooting without my contacts would most likely be counterproductive. I've never tried shooting with the left lens in and the right one out. Although I'm pretty sure that combo would result in a massive headache.

I avoid wearing prescription glasses as much as possible, shooting or otherwise.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

I wear my contact lenses 24/7. I have the kind that only has to be changed once a month. I cant feel them in my eyes ever and often forget I even wear them. I can NOT be outside without sunglasses on, no matter if its sunny or cloudy. I guess I have very sensitive eyes. So, I dont go cheap when it comes to sunglasses. I currently have a pair of Oakley Nanowires 2.0 with the Iridium Polarized lenses. They are by far the best and most comfortable pair ive ever owned. The polarized lenses make a huge difference with glare. I wear my contacts and my Oakleys when I shoot and dont have any problems at all.

Re: With Corrective lenses or not?

After over 25 years of grunting code (programmer) the only way I really can see is with my contacts. At my desk with my pc, I use my glasses. Just before I leave work, in go the contacts.

Now as for shooting, if I am shooting my bolt gun which has a Nightforce scope I use only my contacts other wise if I use the glasses I don't see the reticle. Hand guns or AR's I use my eye glasses.

With the contacts my vision is very clear. I just wish I had good eyes along with knees, ankles, right elbow and lower back. Eleven years of cross country and almost twenty years of crew the body just ain't the same
