Re: Wolf Match Extra vs. Match Target
wolf ammo site says its not tula:
http://www.wolfammo.com/ http://www.wolfammo.com/pdf/WOLF_Packaging_Alert.pdf (also has a good list of SK ammo in the rimfire section)
go figure.
http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=268 some other info, still, its ar15.com so take it with a grain of salt.
so it has been around forever that sk and wolf are one and the same, and here is further proof that BOTH Wolf and SK are one and the same under lapua (note the name in the website)
http://www.lapua-gmbh.de/naviEN.html
http://www.lapua.com/en/products/sport-shooting/rimfire-cartridges
finally found out that SK stands for schonebeck:
http://www.lapua-gmbh.de/naviEN.html
and according to the sk / lapua site, a history of sk:
http://www.lapua-gmbh.de/naviEN.html looks as though it was SK first, then renamed lapua, this article points out that it was SK first, then renamed lapua:
http://www.chuckhawks.com/lapua_22_ammo.htm
then the lapua site has that it was lapua first, then aquired SK:
http://www.lapua.com/en/lapua/history-of-lapua.html
suffice it to say, who owns who? since 2005 Nammo AS ownership changed: 50% owned by Patria Oyj and 50% by the Norwegian government.
so in the end wolf, sk, lapua is owned by the Patria Oyj and the Norwegian government.
looks like patria makes / owns more than just .22 ammo:
http://www.patria.fi/Patria_WWW_EN_Sisalto/Patria_WWW_EN/Products+and+services/index.html
http://www.patria.fi/patria_www_en_sisal...re-aligned.html
perhaps they should rename it "onion ammo" ....the more layers you peel, the more layers you get!
so much like our own "freedom group" that owns remington, marlin, bushmaster, and a host of companies that you would not believe, the only thing i can get out of the clear as mud chain of events:
1. Wolf is not a manufacturer
2. Wolf is an importer
3. Wolf contracts out various manufacturers to produce ammos for them (for example SK/lapua, Tula-maybe, who knows whomelse) then prints Wolf on the box and markets it as their own.
there really wasn't wolf ammo ever, just a name. like santa claus.
like BUNSEN said above, what determines the difference of Extra and MT is the way the QC dept seperates the lots of ammo. supposedly there is more care and less deviation with the Extra, but like the others mentioned i've actually had better results with the MT compared to the Extra.
i've also noticed a difference in fps between the two, just as with the SK.
interestingly, although the sk and the wolf supposed to be one and the same, (SK Jagd Rifle Match = Wolf Match Extra > SK Jagd Std Plus = Wolf Match) at a single range session a year or two ago, it seemed at least on the chronogragh and deviation numbers and IMO that there are 4 grades of the lapua ammo (just speculation).
1. Wolf extra
2. SK rifle match
3. Wolf MT
4. SK std plus
some other names of whom owns whom:

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Centurion Ordnance imports Aguila</span></span>, which is a really good shooting ammo for the price and very comparable to wolf / sk. however personal experience....was my go to ammo until i had a couple bricks of bad ammo. Centurion / aguila customer service sucks eggs, no response at all after contacting them. not even a "too bad" form letter / email. i would not buy it in bulk, for if there is a problem, it appears you are stuck.
all i could find on aguila,
http://cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes.htm click on "A" you get aguila, which leads to the name Industrias Tecnos S.A. de C.V., which leads to here:
