I think my 52 Winny likes this stuff...100 yards

I have been working on the fundamentals a lot lately, specifically follow through as it is a bitch with a longer barreled rifle.
Now if I can just do this 6 times in a row.

If you REALLY want to see what your Win 52 can do at 100yds, try out some of the higher end offerings from Lapua (they make Wolf) like Center-X and Midas +. My 52 B & D's absolutely LOVE anything with Lapua snot on it. I have some Center-X for mine, but have not had time to test it yet.

Oh and it's required in this forum that you post pics of your Win 52. :)

I have a remington 40x that like the "cheap" wolf stuff as well. I have fed mine quite a variety of expensive match ammo and I have found a few that shoot just as well but I really can't say they shoot appreciably better. Buy a bunch when you find it as it will vary a little from lot to lot.

Great shooting by the way!

As you wish...this is the set up I have been using to shoot due to the rules of the 100yd shootout

She is a classic beauty! That group you posted is now even more impressive that I see you are using an old school scope. EGW makes a nice picatinny rail mount base if you ever decide to go with a more modern scope.

Here is some Center-X in stock:

Thanks for the link. The scope is a 6x Lyman Junior Targetspot. Those crosshairs cover a LOT at 100yds. I am looking for a higher powered scope in a Unertl, Lyman, etc. I don't wish to add any non-factory holes.

The EGW base is a cantilever style mount that utilizes the same holes as the rear scope block just FYI. Here is a picture of the EGW base on mine:

Dangit... lucky SOB... my 40X hates Wolf

What a shame that Winchester and Remington can't make these guns today.

I completely agree.
I almost let this rifle get away. First time I bought it I traded a Winchester defender and $150 for it. I got the scope in another trade. Some years later I traded it to a buddy who owns a gun shop in AR. He knew I would regret it (I did) and he hung on to it for almost 5 years and let me trade him back out of it (for a LOT more money than I had in it the first time).
This one will stay this time.

I have always called this my magic gun, it pretty much shoots any thing.

Hey Yote did you ever shoot the Federal Ultra Match with the dimpled heads? Best I can remember they made it in two different velocities. The 52 really liked the faster stuff and somewhere I have a group with 4 measuring .003 shanked the 5th shot that opened the group up to .125
I have some of the slower stuff and it is crap in this gun...go figure.

Thanks! The real game is offhand with this Annie. She's old but good! Best trigger I've got, including Jewel 2oz ers

I like it. I really wish I hadn't sold my heavy 52's with the better speed lock triggers.

Just out of curiosity I had a Savage/Anshutz 54 sporter and the manual stated something to the effect "This is a ultra-honed lead lapped barrel. Do not clean with a brush or shoot gilded ammo. To do so will void the warranty" Does yours say anything like that?

You know, I bought this used/long distance and never got any of the original paperwork/box. I will say I hardly ever clean it. Now it was a safe queen for quite a while as we stopped having silhouette matches at our club, but my laziness combined with having reading enough threads justifying no to minimal cleaning for these rigs has taken hold. I think I have a bore guide for it somewhere....

On another note, I tested ammo when I bought it years ago and if I recall it did shoot better with the high end Eley than the Wolf, but not enough to justify the cost difference and I'm not shooting competitive benchrest or anything.

I had some older Eley Standard setting around and shot this 100yd string. The OTC calculations are off a little as it was subtracting .224 instead of .222. Would have been better if I had been paying better attention to follow through.

+yes we have, the annie did ok, with the ultra match out to 100yd, but turned to crap, at 156yd an 210yd,, the slower did better for me past 100yd. but not as good as my mojo lot# of centerx
same for my sons lilja 455,
it you know the cost of center x, an midas plus, you will know why I would love for the sons 455, would shoot the wolf
but lo not
