Just wondering if any of you have shot the "new" Wolf Match or Extra and been able to see any differences now that it is made in the UK by Eley? You can tell I guess from the new plastic carton versus the paper.

Found out about this yesterday when I went to buy more Center X for the Vudoo. I picked up a brick of the Wolf Match Extra as I have found it to shoot great over many of my rifles and they mentioned it was now being made by Eley. I am curious to see how it performs against the previous Lapua manufactured product.

Let me know what your seeing. I believe that Eley makes some great stuff so this could get interesting.

It will be interesting. Will the Wolf be an equivalent to the old Eley Club? or the Remington/Eley ammo? Or will the match extra be closer to the Eley Black product? It is certainly being priced at about half the price of Eley blk so my guess is this will be Eley club in a new wrapper. Eley makes some good ammo. Try the Wolf out and see how it performs.

I know Ely has near mythical status, but their lower grades like Club didn't shoot well in my 40X, or at least now near their higher levels. It will be interesting to see where it ends up.

Glad I saw this - will want to try some of the Eley-made rounds before making a large order. I still have a few same-lot bricks of the German rounds, which give me an ES in the high 30s and SD of 9 over the 50+ I've chronoed out of my 16" factory-barreled CZ-455. I did see a 20-fps difference across a 30-degree F. temp spread (1059fps@57 degrees, 1080fps@88 degrees). ES and SD were the same.

Full disclosure: there was one round out of the 25 fired at 88 degrees that chronoed 1120fps, 45fps higher than the next-highest round. Leaving that one in raised the SD to 16.

So you mean to tell me there’s better .22 than the Wolf Extra Match?

Black box Eley?

Price goes way up (think $11-25 per box of 50 rounds) but ES and SD go down, this game aint cheap on the high end:

Lapua Center-X
Lapua Midas +
Lapua Biathlon
RWS - 50
RWS-100
Eley EDGE
Eley TENEX
Eley Match

Those are your match grade ammos for .22LR.

Most match grade ammo from other manufacturers are usually re-branded/re-packaged cheaper grade ammo from Lapua, RWS or Eley (Remington Ultra Match, Norma TAC-22, etc.) There is a limited number of manufacturers of .22RF in the world, sadly American manufacturers have nothing that competes with the European ammo as far as consistency. Even worse, you still get a couple of turds in the expensive ammo too.

Yeah it is sad that Federal and the Russki Olimp-R gave up on their odd-ball dimpled brass case Olympic grade match ammo. They seemed to own the world for a few years and then just quit. Not sure if it was cost or that the competitors got better (Lapua/Eley) or what? I still have a large batch of Vostok ammo. It is greasy like most of the Russian stuff but shoot quite well for old ammo with dubious storage practices. I found it to be similar in accuracy to SK and Wolf but not better. Much messier.

So, just as resourceful rimfire enthusiasts figured out the old equivalent of SK Rifle Match, has anyone yet figured out what Eley equivalent this is? I'm confused because all the good Eley seems to be beeswax lubed and this seems to be a "lapua-like" ballistic lube.

I don't know whether you can generalize. My Annie shoots in the following order

Lapua Midas +
Eley TENEX
RWS-50
Wolf Match Extra
SK Rifle Match
RWS Special Match
Eley Match
RWS-100
Wolf Match Target

I won't pay for Midas or TENEX too often. Got lucky once and bought a case of TENEX for $675 from someone going through some tough times.. Still have most of it. For what I do, it isn't necessary. Generally find that the Wolf Match Extra works very well for me and NRL type shooting.

My KIDD 20" straight taper barrel likes ELEY Club. This group is from 100 yards. Mostly get this kind of group at 50 yards. ELEY Club has been very consisted over several different lots and shooting sessions for groups.

I've tried both the Eley made Wolf MT and ME.
Results across the chrony varied box to box.
Results on target matched the ES.
Batch differences can be extreme.
One box will show ES less than 40 fps
next box over 100 fps, practice ammo.
Hence the lower cost per round.
