What is normal behavior? I know for certain that "normal" behavior in the past was for people to kill them so they would almost always run, just like every other animal. I also know that when animals are not hunted, like in Estes Park etc the animals don't run and that is "normal." Are these wolves being hunted? If not, this is going to be "normal."

Depends on who you talk to I suppose. I was chatting with the owner of Buffalo Bore ammo years ago, like probably 20 years ago, and he and his wife were surrounded the same way by wolves in Idaho. From what I remember he ended up shooting one that came in for the attack and the rest would not leave. I can’t remember if he ended up shooting more of them or not, but I do remember him saying he reported it, it was investigated, he did not get charged with anything, but did get lots of death threats from the peta types; you know the ones who don’t really go outside, but want to save every animal and have the right to kill their unborn children.

It would be interesting to see how many attacks like this have taken place every where the wolves have been reintroduced.

I camped a lot in Alaska/canada area. Summer months. The wolves never bothered me. The howls are unnerving as hell granted. I guess it all depends. Had more trouble with mountain lions in the Sierra Nevadas.

We’re dealing with this in CO right now. I feel so torn about it too. I love the idea of possibly seeing wolves while we’re out doing something in the mountains. However… I also understand where the farmers/ranchers are coming from. I wouldn’t want to lose any animals to any predators and I damn sure don’t want some pencil-necked gov bureaucrats telling me how or how not to manage my land

Yeah, I can tell you that number is COMPLETE horseshit. We see them constantly, tracks everywhere. Even in the south-central parts of the state, they are now present. Honestly, it’s probably more like 5,000, but I wouldn’t say 10,000 is an unreasonable estimate. Just look at how fast the hunters blew the quota during the last legal wolf hunt, it was like less than 3 days for 216 wolves. No way hunters eliminated a quarter of the entire population in 3 days, that’s just garbage.

The return of wolves has completely decimated public land deer hunting in northern WI from what it uses to be. The big bucks are gone. Which isn’t surprising because those 3-4+YO bucks tend to inhabit the same remote places that the wolf packs gravitate to. After the rut, those bucks are wore out and become easy prey. By WI DNR’s own admission, a wolf eats 20 deer a year. So a pack of 12 eats 240 deer a year. That’s a huge impact on local chunks of National Forest!!

I never bowhunt without a gun now, way too much risk. Cattle and hunting dogs getting killed constantly. It’s only a matter of time before it’s a kid, seriously. That is absolutely coming. These fucking moron judges in Madison and other liberal cities that protect them are lucky that 19yo had his head screwed on straight, cause there could easily have been blood on their hands with the younger ones in the blind. Only the government could possibly be dumb enough to try to reintroduce elk into WI, at the same time as wolves. They claim they didn’t reintroduce the wolves but I don’t believe that for a second.

They spent all this money to plant elk in Clam Lake, and over the like 15yr span of the program have seen next to zero population growth due to mortality. The two biggest causes of elk death are wolves and cars. And guess what, the wolves are the reason all the elk are standing on HWY 13 all day. The whole thing is the biggest waste of tax dollars ever.

The DNR KNOWS they’ve committed a giant fuckup. I once saw a pie graph of fawn mortality by predation in a WI DNR annual herd report ( or similiar document, but it was def created by the state). The pie was broken up by predator. Bear, coyote, bobcat, fox, and some others all had their own pie slices, comprising 2/3rds of the pie. The last third was “other predators”. Fucking wolves didn’t have a slice on the graph. The assholes know.

In northern Idaho, the feds reintroduced wolves and nobody was supposed to be shooting them for quite a few years. They thrived and had litter after litter. The wolves got so they were not too much afraid of human activity. Around Weippe and the Cavendish area, we would see them just off of the road and many times right in the road. No fear, just watch you drive by. Not far from town and I would bet money they were in town at night. They decimated the mule deer population and elk herds.

Once a season was opened up, they figured it out real fast. It's too not hard to find and see wolves but at least they are mostly staying away from the towns.

In Alaska, they pretty much stayed away from the villages. Guys there hunted and trapped them with vigor and gusto. There were always wolves around when the Caribou herds were migrating and pretty easy picking then. I shot a big black one and had it tanned...unfortunately, not very professionally. I no longer have it.

I don't think there are any wolves near where I live now in Oklahoma. That's ok with me. I've seen enough of them. No griz either and that's definitely ok with me. I do have a bunch of coyotes I am just now getting to work on but I think the worst thing I have encountered, the thing that really gives me the heeby jeebies are the fucking scorpions and tarantulas and black widow spiders and the fucking copperheads and the fucking water moccasins (these fuckers are aggressive and will try to get in the boat while you are fishing). I'd rather have the wolf around than these snakes and bugs.

At 0200 about 2 months ago this fucker had a head and my bird dog was going crazy. I got him at too close range in my tightey whiteys and flip flops in the driveway under my old truck. About 54".

I have talked to numereous game wardens in az, they all lie about the wolves, like there were trained to or something. I always trip them up. I've seen at least 3 wolves on separate locations, in units where they say "there is no wolves". Just more lying goverment employees.

Said it was in the 175# area.
Until one has spent time amongst them truly understanding them is left up to what has been taught.
