I've been looking for a lefty rem 700 action for 2 years now and haven't been able to scoop one up. I always thought buying new was my backup plan, then I started looking for new ones in the Varmint or LTR variety and that was just as unsuccessful. Well I fell into an already trued rem 700 with a optic base at a price I couldn't pass up so I can finally move forward (thanks to a member here for hooking me up, not sure if he wanted to be named). Only bad thing is I was hoping to get a varmint sps or ltr and i could shoot it now, but I had to spend a big chunk of my limited budget on an action. I'm better off in the long run but not the immediate.
My plan for now (as I already have a bottom metal, bipod, good optics and rings) is to add a mcmillan or manners stock in the T2 or A3 variety and find a takeoff barrel to use for a while until I have the budget to get a bartlein or a kieger.
That way I can start shooting and learning dopes, wind, proper technique etc and then can upgrade my barrel later when I can out shoot the gun. I figure I'll look for a 308 for ammo availability and maybe go 260 later when I can reload. Plus not to may 260 take offs lying around.P
Just had to put that out there as I'm pretty pumped that my entry into long range shooting is in sight where last week it was still a fantasy.
Any insights, advice, etc are appreciated.
