Smooth brain, irresponsible reporting is a pestilence. Article concludes by saying, "When the periodic cicadas emerge, they 'just overwhelm an area,' according to Airhart
'This causes tree nurseries to lose millions of dollars due to loss of product.'"
Cicadas don't eat leaves. They might drink some sap, even in huge numbers, they don't cause much damage to trees from feeding. They do lay their eggs in the bottom of branches, which causes some scaring but unless the tree is very small, doesn't harm it in a meaningful way.
But ,yeah.... death by "overwhelming". Doesn't matter, it's all a result of climate change. Look over there! The sky is falling!
