I just got the call today from the dealer that my suppressor (30p-1) was received from Thunderbeast Arms. I was excited to hear that they could send off the ATF paperwork and it should hopefully be completed in 3-4 more months. I confirmed the model number was correct and then asked about the threads. Unfortunately, the threads were 5/8-24 instead of the M18x1 I ordered. I stated that was not what I ordered and my dealer was going to call me back after some research.

I ended up calling dealer after not hearing back and she stated that the suppressor would be shipped back to Thunderbeast and they would rethread it to the correct M18x1. I called Thunderbeast and spoke to the office staff that confirmed they would rethread it and that my dealer could go ahead and send the ATF paperwork. I asked to speak with someone in the machine shop about this procedure. I was a little uncomfortable with getting a part that had to be reworked instead of the correct part the first time. Especially, since it was not my mistake and suppressors are not cheap both in cost and time expended in acquiring one. Nobody was available in the shop and Zak Smith was out of town. She took my number.

Has anyone had a Ti suppressor rethreaded? I did an internet search on google and came up with basically nothing. Why can't they just return the 5/8-24 to stock and send the M18x1? It seems like it would be less work for Thunderbeast as well just sending a new one in M18x1 instead of reworking it.

I realize mistakes happen. I just want the correct suppressor, even if I have to wait a little longer to get it. Would you all feel comfortable getting a brand new suppressor rethreaded? Please advise...

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

all they are gonna do is change out the end cap...they are not going to "re-thread" anything... they are going to send the suppressor back on a repair ticket instead of form 3 it back to the manufacturer and then form 3 one back to your dealer. you will have no problems. the suppressor will still be new.

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

the tube with the serial number is all that matters.....

the above post says it all.....

metric threads are for........the sick and trouble makers and malcontents.......

but the boolits should make it from one end of the tube to the other.

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

You'll be fine, TBAC will make it right. I don't know what your level of understanding is with machine work, but just because someone tells you "rethreaded" that doesn't mean it will be a hack job. These guys are professionals, and some of the most meticulous shooters i've ever met. I'm certain they'll take care of it.

You have nothing to worry about, I'd suggest you just forget about it and wait patiently for the ATF- because they will take far longer to do your paperwork than TBAC will to fix it.

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

Ladd,

I just left you a voicemail. Give me a call ASAP and I'll get you sorted out. My mobile number is on the TBAC web site.

In the meantime, here's the deal. Your dealer ordered the wrong threads. We didn't know what you wanted until you sent us the email a couple days ago. The email you provided bounced (bad address) so I had Nora at the office call you.

Anyway, there are two ways to fix this:

1. Exchange it for a M18x1.0 can. This would mean waiting for another Form 3 to clear, and our average ATF Form 3 delays are running about 25 days.

2. Send it back on a "repair" order and we can re-thread it. This is not a big deal. It'll be the same as a brand new suppressor. We don't have to even take it apart because M18 is much bigger than 5/8 threads. Your dealer already agreed to pay us to do this.

We can do it either way, and I want you to be 100% happy with your can. Your dealer probably wanted to have it done as a "repair" so you didn't have to wait for another Form 3.

Call me -

thanks
Zak

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

Ladd,

My buddy bought an AIAW and sold his custom rig off. So he took his (30p-1) up to Shane at Thunderbeast and had it rethreaded to 18x1 from 5/8x24.

Works great!!

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

I am doing the opposite. I have a TRG and cutting it and chopping it to 5/8x24... I already have the suppressor and use it on another rifle.

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

Ladd,

You have nothing to worry about and will be very happy with you new can.
The 30P-1 is an exceptional piece of engineering.
- Quiet
- Light
- Accurate
- Perfection in regards to fit and finish

I don't think that I will ever shoot my competition bolt gun without out it ever again.
I also built a whole new upper receiver in 300 BLK around my 30P-1.

At a recent competition I got a chance to see how the 30P-1 stacked up against a couple other suppressors and there wasn't any comparison.
Everyone was commenting on my 30P-1 and asking questions about it.

Oh yea, in case you haven't figured it out yet, their customer service is stellar as well...

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

Kudos to Zak and the excellent customer service! He assured me it would be like new and that is all I needed to hear.

It's great to have such a knowledgeable source and reputable business man contribute to discussions here on SH. Not to mention all the articles, Thunderbeast Arms sponsorship of SH, and sponsorship of long range shooting events around the country. Just a few of the reasons I decided to buy my suppressor from Thunderbeast (not to mention they are supposed to be one of the very best).

Thanks Zak!

How do you know? How much time do you have with one? What model and on what platform are your running it?

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

Alot of suppressor mfgr's make slightly different versions of the same mouse trap. Saying one is "best" is equivalent to going to a library, wandering down the "religion section" and picking a random fucking book saying "this is the right one".

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

Well, you can objectively test suppressors and rank them in order of performance. Or performance/price. Try that with a religious book. Frank did some testing with our 30P-1 last summer and the results were very favorable to our can. There are several good precision/LR cans out there. Once you get to a certain level of performance, the differences might be moot. If that's the case for someone, we hope to make up the difference in how we do business.

Re: Wrong Threads on NEW Suppressor!

I was asking the member to explain himself after his barrage of posts first asking what suppressor is the best for 308, then asking can he buy one can and shoot more then one caliber thru it, THEN someone mentioning TBA and all the sudden he knows they are "the best".

I find it ironic that he doesnt own a suppressor but knows a certain brand is the best. I wanted to hear his explanations of why he thinks that.

I myself own 3 TBA cans, and I enjoy them all. The 338P-1 is a top performer for me.
