OK iam kicking myself right now and need some confident input. I have the option of getting the savage model 10 and the FN A1 for a steal of a deal. I was looking at the Savage 10 with the HS or the McM. I understand the MCM stock on the Savage is not bedded. So If get the Savage with the MCM stock, Ill have to get it bedded. I have the option of getting an Fn A1 also. Both i understand are great guns. I have played with them in all positions from off hand to prone. I like them both and cant pick anything wrong out with them. Need some input so i can sit down with out pain. Also does anyone know if the A1 is bedded? i cant get a hold of FN to find out.
Thanks

I am 99% certain the A1 is not bedded, you'd be hard pressed to find a "factory" rifle that is. As far as the McMillan needing bedding, it is recommended, but not required, it can be done down the road if you like. I'd vote for the Savage/McMillan, hard to beat Savage for over the shelf accuracy.

Re: WTF. MCM or HS ! Need help

We had 25 rifles from FN shooting in the .2's and .3's a couple weeks ago @ ASC. I seriously doubt he's leaving much on the table by going with FN vs Savage.

It's up to you to decide if you like a Winny or a Savage action better. There are Savage owners who love their Savages and FN owners who love their Winny's, but probably very few owners of one who love the other.

Re: WTF. MCM or HS ! Need help

True. I like the pre 70 action better than the savage but i know savage is a great rifle. yes it is still hard for me to accept that cause iam still in the mind set of savage 15 years ago. but its a hard decision. The savage also has the HS stock but it doesnt cost much to bed a rifle. I want it done right. Any opinions on a reliable long lasting bedding compound?

From what Ive read over on the Fn forums, the A1 is not bedded, the only glass bedded production rifle from FN is the A3G

+1! Solid advice. I ordered an FN SPR A2 in for a close friend and it was not bedded. I bedded it for him shortly afterwards. Mind you, it is an absolute hammer, but from experience, the Savage is a shooter as well. I would say go with the Savage as stated above.

Re: WTF. MCM or HS ! Need help

I have a factory Rem 223 in an unbedded A5 that shoots very very well. I had planned on shooting it before and after but it no reason to touch it.

Between the two, I would go with the FN. I sold mine when we purchased the house cause we dumped our savings to buy the house and wanted to change the tile floor before momma moved in. It was one that went on the block and I regret selling.

Re: WTF. MCM or HS ! Need help

the savage in the HS will have an aluminum block. i like mine, but if i had my way id have an A4 adjustable in some pretty colors and CDI bottom. but they only offered the A5 and i didnt like that as much. i will still skim bed it soon and bed the scope base as well. shoots great, and i like the action. i did a few things and it feels pretty good.

Re: WTF. MCM or HS ! Need help

I have the HS stock on my Savage. Even with the alum. block there is still minimal contact with the receiver. Hogged it out and bedding with Devcon 10100.
Bedding the base as well (EGW HD 20 MOA)
Just trying to decide if I want to send the BA off for muzzle threads while I have it apart.

Re: WTF. MCM or HS ! Need help

Thanks all. Iam sure i will be getting the savage with the MCM stock because the FN A1 fell through. Iam not at all upset because i know they are both great gun. I handload so iam going to be trying to see what i can do with a factory rifle.
