I'm narrowing down barrel choices for my short/tactical 6.5 Creedmoor build and looking at X-Caliber.
It looks like they may be able to give me what I am looking for (16" w/rifle gas, in various profiles), so if I go this way, I can get a finished product, rather than a barrel that, once purchased, needs to be profiled, shortened & threaded, etc.
XC offers nitriding, but only for 4140, not the 416R stainless variant. I want a black barrel, so what would I be giving up by going 4140? I've heard there is better accuracy w/stainless, but more barrel life w/4140. Is this correct?
Is there anything else I should know? Could I get the stainless, and finish it later myself? If so, how?
