I've e-mailed Kyle once or twice, very accommodating replies and I'm comfortable doing business with XLR from up here in Canada,. I just am tied between choice of rifle brand?

Get a Tikka T3 with a 26" barrel. Kyle inlets for them, and IMO they are a better action than Savage or Remington. </div></div>

I am digging the TIKKA yes!,. how ever I don't see fitment for a 300 win mag for an XLR???,.. just a 223 or 308?

Xlr will fit a 300 wm, just get a long action version. As for rifles I would go with a Rem 700 5r in 300wm with a jewell trigger. I am going this same route just to save some time and cash(i usually build up my rifles takes forever waiting on parts).

Jewels are nice, but do not necessarily have the best reputation for reliability in field conditions/tactical comps... just a consideration for folks.

I'm awaiting a reply from XLR on this subject,.. if indeed a Tikka T3 is a match for a <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Tikka <span style="text-decoration: underline">300 win mag</span></span></span> long action I'm ordering it NOW!,.

I just want to be sure that's available for it!

Jewels are nice, but do not necessarily have the best reputation for reliability in field conditions/tactical comps... just a consideration for folks. </div></div> I just heard from XLR,. FAIL!!!,.. the Tikka 300 win mag is only a singl round application,. for a clip it removes to much meat on the frame and is unsafe to do so,. unless Kyle was to make some major adjustment to his mill-blanks I guess??,. it's it and that's that!

I have beat the hell out of my rifles with jewell triggers in them, no problems. My lease manager accidently dropped my 308 25feet off a shooting platform and it still shot like a dream. I have heard of some folks having issues but I have yet to see any issues with jewell triggers.

With a jewell trigger you will need to remove a little bit of metal from the trigger guard area.

Thinking about ordering one of these for my SPS Tactical. Probably the 12" handguard would suit my 20" barrel the best? I've looked through the thread and haven't had much luck finding a picture of a similar setup.

Kyle told me they were not going to offer the Tikka T-3 magnum version there were issues with the safety of the recoil lug. I had one on order when i got the news. so he kindly refunded the funds.

If you are working from a bipod, I say go with the 14 inch. It puts the bipod further down closer to the muzzle. That gives you even greater stability.

Just got my scope base back from Kyle. If you are not familiar with the stock, it requires a scope base that does not stick out past the receiver, so he will shorten yours for free. The scope base I received back is just as flawless as the XLR stock. In fact it looks like the whole base was anodized again, because the finish looks the same on the front 'cut-off' portion as the rest of the base. Once again, Kyle and XLR Industries works hard to earn your business. They definitely deserve it.

My XLR was waiting for me when I got home today (happy Friday!).

My barreled action isn't back from the smith yet so I can only give some initial impressions, but:

- The green anodizing is darker and flatter than what I was expecting from the pics folks have posted (in a good way) -- some of the pictures had me thinking it was more of a shiny lime green, but in person it is a dark forest green that isn't going to stand out any more (probably less, in fact) than the black.

- My Alpha mags fit great. In fact, they somehow seem both easier to seat, and to have less play once inserted than the CDI DBM I've been using for a while. Also an empty alpha will drop free without any extra assistance when you hit the lever, very nice surprise.

- The 'tactical' stock is really well thought out -- the adjustability is great of course, but the shape it, the cutout at the bottom -- it all just works really well, both prone and in different positions.

- Atlas bipod and this thing are a match made in heaven -- the combination of having the bipod closer to the boreline, and being able to put the legs way out forward just makes for a wickedly stable feeling prone position (can't wait to try it behind optics).

- Find and finish are great.

Overall, I'm even more excited about this thing now that I have it in hand than I was before I got it. I'll post pics and further impressions once I have a rifle put together and some rounds down range.

The folding stock option just screws in line with the existing stock so yes you can buy that adapter later and turn a fixed stock xlr into a folding stock xlr.

The action is a 1 off stiller octagon action from a run of 20. The barrel is a 30" heavy palma profile bartlein chambered in 260AI. This stock has the 15.5 inch long handguard on it. As I understand it they will be making more of those actions later this year. Fits down in the chassis perfectly.

Got mine. I'll use it with my Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223. The Timney trigger was too wide, so rather than pay someone to mill it out or use my dremel (I don't trust myself), I swapped triggers with another Remington 700 I have that has a stock "old style" tuned trigger. I had a Weaver (brand) base for it that I bedded to the receiver, which was obviously too long, so I removed it and (gulp) used my dremel to cut off about 1.5" off the front of the base so that it fit with a 1/2" or so gap between the end of the base and the XLR's "collar" once reinstalled.

I have a NF 3.5-15X50 MRAD/Mil that I'll be using on this one, but the Medium TPS rings are a bit too low - I think they measure just over 1", so I guess I'll probably have to buy the TPS High rings that measure ~1.225" - that should hopefully clear the handguard for the 50mm objective with a BC flip cover on it.

Yours should look a lot like mine (on the left). SPS in .223 cut to 18", NF 5.5.22x50

Its going to depend on a lot of factors so unless someone has an identical setup to yours I would be careful taking what worked for them.

From build to build, people have different diameter actions. On top of that they have different thickness rails on top of those actions. That basically establishes ground zero and will be some distance above or below the hand guard depending on which one you picked (1.75" or 2").

Your rings are going to pick up the center line of the scope from that point and you'll want to add if you expect to have caps and if you want some extra clearance under it.

Simplifying it, you need to know the hand guard diameter, objective size (with caps on if you plan to use those - for example a nightforce nxs 56mm is 2.56" ), action diameter, and rail thickness (amount rings will sit above the top of the action on this rail).

min ring height = ( hand guard diameter / 2 ) + ( objective diameter / 2 ) + desired clearance - ( action diameter / 2 ) - rail thickness + 0.035 per 6" past action face if rail is 20 moa

If its a Remington / clone action then the diameter is about 1.35". A typical rail is .2" - .4" in thickness. Caps are in the neighborhood of .125 - .132". On a 20 moa rail figuring 6" past the action face is close enough for most large scopes with a sun shade.

I have done the calculations, but I don't know the height of the tube as compared to the action. I have .95” 35mm rings and I think they will not be high enough. I would like to get rings before the XLR chassis comes in, but I don’t want to guess wrong. 35mm rings are expensive, so I don’t want to buy more than once. I have an action dia. of 1.33 and a Farrell mount that is .420 I was hoping to find someone running close to the same setup and see what ring height they are running. Doing the calculations from XLR's sight I should be close.

Assuming the measurement for the objective diameter from Vortex's site is correct at 2.33", a 2" hand guard from XLR, a 20 moa rail and that your action was perfectly centered in the hand guard you would need 1.105" rings with zero clearance between hand guard and rings. Add .125 for caps and .125 for overall clearance and you need 1.35" rings. There are some quality mounts out there in the 1.42" range which would work good.

If you are going for the 1.75" tube then all you take off that is .125". Even in that case your existing rings are .030" too short with no caps and zero clearance. Minimum would be 0.98 and adding in .125 for caps and .125 for clearance you are at 1.230".

Buying them from a place like Midway or Sinclair with a 90 day exchange policy would probably be a good idea.

There isnt an issue using very high rings on the XLR because everything is adjustable. You also end up in the range of the right height rings to put your scope onto something with a full length flat top rail which is handy if you want to swap the scope around. Another option is to use your existing rings and get something like this to raise the whole thing up.

The chassis is a direct bolt on for the Remington 700. Your old sheetmetal internal mag must be removed for use with this chassis.

I have a remington 5r with a badger 20 MOA base and running a Razor HD. Just got my chassis in. Rings are on the rifle but I was able to do a rough measurement and they are in the .7 in range from bottom of base to bottom of ring. This gives me enough room for the scope+vortex caps and room to spare. Sorry I don't have any more exact measurements as I don't have the gun at the moment but should give you an idea.

Hey....thanks. I have a set of millett tac rings that should be plenty high. If the vortex rings don't work, I will use the milletts and then I can purchase some quality rings after I know exactly what I need. I can't believe no one has commented on the stock I built, like, dislike, hate? So how do you like your Razor? I should have mine next week. I should be getting my XLR chassis in about four more weeks….can’t hardly wait.

I'm impressed by the stock as I have zero skills when it comes to making something from scratch.

My Razor is part of my chassis/optic upgrade and I haven't got to shoot it yet but that will change very soon. After a test fire or two the chassis will get some krylon and I'll be good to go........for now.
