Depends on the angle at which you aim into the sky...
The Army says the max effective range is 800m, USMS says 1000..

It's pretty obvious that your new to shooting......so we'll take it easy on you....
Your rifle I assume is in .308 Winchester, so you can shoot that round to about 1200 yards before the bullet goes subsonic & becomes alittle unstabe & may be unpredictable where it will land on a target. Do some surfing here on the reloading & range results threads. You will see people here making hits at 1200 yards & further with the .308 Win.
Keep in mind that the accuracy of your rifle may not be good enough to hit out this far, but the SPS should be dang good enough to 800 yards on a man silhouette target. Welcome to the Hide......

We will?
When did that policy change? Why the hell didn't I get the memo?

I think it depends if the "yards" that you will be shooting have recenly been mowed. Also if there is a lot of lawn furniture in those yards it will limit how many you can shoot.

More info Boy'o </div></div>
I can usually make it through my yard, my neighbor's yard and my neighbor's neighbor's yard before a mountainside tends to abruptly stop the bullet. So I am gonna go with three yards (2 if you don't count mine).
Never tried shooting at an angle big enough to get out to 2134 like dontstrokeme suggests, but from what I have read on the Internet...he is RIGHT ON!!!
Seriously, Dude...how about a little more information in your original post if you actually want some serious responses?!?!?!
