Yeti coolers - who has 'em?

The brother and I are thinking about getting the old man one for Father's Day. Either the Tundra 35, or 45.

Anyone else have one? Opinions? Any other comparable brands I should shop also?

Also, any deals to be had on these things? They're not exactly cheap

You should take a look at Engel. They are high quality and a good bit less expensive. I have the 65qt and I really like it.

I have the 120 qt Yeti and absolutely love mine. It will hold ice for two weeks and seals nice and tight to keep the dust and dirt out. I am considering a second Yeti for drinks since my small Igloo we use for drinks absolutely pales in comparison ( ice in the Igloo lasted one day and drinks were covered in road dust / mud).

I've heard you can get "blems" from the home office in Austin. Not sure if they ship, or if it's walk-in only on that, though. I scored a blem from the booth at SHOT and I never could find the "blem." Good stuff, and a great deal.

Yeti's are pretty darn expensive but the insulation is incredible and I imagine if you use it enough the savings from buying less ice each time will pay off over time. Plus if you like to head out for a week or so they will do the trick.

I know that they are bear proof and are great quality. But until they are theft proof there is no way im spending that kind of money on a cooler. No bears around here but i got 3 brothers in law.

I have had one for about 5 years now and it is great. It has been beat up pretty good and there are only a few small dents in it. Great cooler and will last you a lifetime. Also to keep people from stealing it I put a lock through the lid at the corner with a stainless cable to a tie down ring in my truck bed and no one has taken it yet. Also if you get a big one like mine (120qt) and fill it up, they better eat their wheaties because it will take 2 people to pick it up.

+1 You need to check out the Engel Coolers . Same construction as the Yetti but cheaper. I used to sell both now we just sell the Engel.

Are they expensive Yes there is no way around that. Are you getting what you pay for absolutely.

I have a 75 that lives in my truck bed and works as good today as the day I bought it. No cracking, broken hinges or latches, or any other issue. Wish I could have said that about the coleman's I just sold because I have switch to Yeti or yeti like coolers only. Just add ice and go.

Check out Brute. They are all the range on another board I frequent but I don't have any first hand experience with them.

I have a 25 quart yeti and a 110 quart that I love. They are extremely durable and hold ice well. I had a 35 quart that didn't seal properly and would not hold ice long but they exchanged it with no problem. The other two, you almost have to pry them open when they have ice.

We have a Yeti, and use it every summer for about 3-4 weeks. Its GREAT. Yes, its expensive, but it holds cold like nothing else. On the theft side of things, a lot of people don't really know what it is, they see big white cooler, and don't really think twice about it.

Most of the rafting guides I know use them as well, since they don't really have an easy way to stop for more ice

Living in Florida and doing a bunch of offshore fishing where keeping ice is very important, I've had a bunch of different coolers. Yetis are really good at ice retention but their beauty lies in their ruggedness. Neither you or a grizzly bear are going to hurt one of them. Engels are nice, hold ice on par with a Yeti, and they have nice latches. The all time champ of ice retention is Frigid Rigid. They are made down in Fort Meyers area and will hold ice noticeably longer than any other cooler we've ever seen. Their only downfall is all exterior surfaces are gelcoated which looks incredible but is less than desireable in the ruggedness department. It will chip, which will lead to more chipping, and so on. They are very well made, expensive, and are perfect on a boat but would not be that great in the bed of a truck. I like the Yetis and have 3 of them. My oldest is somewhere around 5 years old and it still holds ice like a champ although I did need to replace the gasket one time. The newer versions use a different type of gasket that is more durable. Hope this helps.

YETI hands down, I have 7 of them and they are amazing. I have two small tan 65's (i think) on my duck boat, two 155's (on is a spitlid that they do not make anymore), one 125, one 75, and one roadie.

There is a reason why they copied Yeti.....
You will get what you pay for and for that small difference I would go with the better product.

I own 3 Yeti coolers now and they are assets when camping, hunting, fishing, or just a long day on the range. I drive a dodge pickup and it has the black LINEX liner, known for getting crazy hot and melting your ice down quickly. My Yeti has kept a large bag of ice solid for 8 hours in hot temps. Im glad I have them!

I'm not 100% yet but I believe that the Engel has been around longer than the Yeti Adam. Nobody answered the phone at Engel or Yeti today.

If you just need ice for a day the OLD igloo max cool do the job. But, if you need it a couple of days get a yeti.

I have a 45 and liked it so much I ordered 4 45s 4 75s a 155 and a 250. I'm a firm believer in yetis now. You guys are willing to spend 7k+ best of the best rifle when a 2500$ rifle will do. Same princeaple applies to coolers. You get what you pay for.

Ice is about 10$ for 150qt cooler and lasts 3days. XY brand would have had to been refilled 2x for 20$ not including gas to the store! What if the nearest store is 2 hrs away? So it pays for itself if you use it.

That's fine, what do you hear more about..... Yeti or Engel?
Cause I see Yeti carried in almost all major outdoors stores. I have never seen an Engel for sale besides the internet. Im just saying, if you want the best, go with the best reputation out there, IMHO it's the Yeti. I have their "12 pack" cooler for when we go out for a day of 4 wheeling, tailgating, diesel truck events, etc and have been extremely happy with it.

Don't own a Yeti but have friends that have them and they are some really good coolers.I know in this 100 degree summers in Louisiana you want the best and that would be Yeti.

I have both coolers, the Engel is the better deal. I'm not interested in what people hear more of or what is in the major sports retailers. At the end of the day, performance is all that matters, and the Engels works very well for the dollar spent. IT holds ice just as well as the Yeti, but for less cost.

Engel being cheaper, I have only looked at a yeti and was impressed. Like the yeti's lid locks but the engels I need to see more of.

My next will be an Engel Deep Blue. A little more insulation in the bottom than the Yeti.
Pelican makes some interesting coolers.

I've got a Tundra 50 and Roadie 20. Both are excellent and will be the last coolers I need in my lifetime. We just got back from a 2 week camping trip around the northern half of Lake Michigan. We kept the 50 in the trailer for storage and used the 20 for the beach/picnics/etc. That setup worked great and we only purchased ice every 3-4 days.

I have a couple of yetis, and use them pretty much daily for the last 3 years. Tough? Absolutely. Better than Engel? Not really. But still good. Mine get opened about 20 times a day, 200 days a year on average. The lid seals have held up great, the rubber closures have been replaced twice and are in need of replacement soon. While the tapered floor is cool for drainage, I would prefer a flat floor that you could stand bottled drinks on straight. Perfect drainage is not really something I need. A few other fishing guides here use the engels and they are holding up at least as good as my Yetis, so I see no downside to getting an engel.

Now as for ice retention, I am sure that it is fine for most uses, but hands down it is not as good as even a coleman cooler. I have camped all over south FL and carried my yetis side by side with igloo and coleman, and the yeti would not hold ice half as long as the cheeper coolers. I would pack the food in the yeti (and I do know how to prep and pack a cooler), which we would open 10% of the times we would open the drink coolers, and pack drinks and snacks in the colemans and the colemans would literally keep ice a full day or more longer than the yeti. Now there is no comparison when it comes to quality of construction, but based strictly on ice retention a $50 cooler whips my $350 yeti's ass handily. This is my biggest disappointment with the yeti. Bottom line, I have enjoyed the toughness of my yetis, and also the stability on the boat, but if I spend money to replace them I will most likely try another brand.

Well, I've been wanting a Yeti for awhile now but just couldn't justify the price. My sons are young 9 & 12 and our camping trips for now are limited to 3 days or so. At about $250 Canadian for the 20gt Roadie I just couldn't justify it...too much and just a bit too small.
After reading this thread last night I purchased the Engel 25qt Deep Blue, which just happened to be on sale for $165 Canadian.
Well...we'll be trying it out this weekend...but first impressions are pretty good. Till now we've been using a 20 year old plastic Coleman and there isn't any comparison construction-wise.
I'll let everyone knows how it does over the weekend, but I'm a happy camper (pun intended).

I just got back from a week long camping trip. Weather not really hot, 70's daytime. Iced up my Yeti 105 on monday, the following monday had about 1/2 of the ice left. Pretty amazing. Since I was in a very remote area with no resupply of ice available, it was much appreciated.

I practically live out of my truck and spend an average of 12 hours in the field every day. My Yeti will spend all 12 of those hours in the cab of my truck which reaches temperatures of 130 degrees in the Florida sun. It stays there typically until 9-ish before I bring it in for the day. Twice a day I swap out a set of those blue freezer packs from the fridge and its stays refrigerator temp. (or colder) 24-7.

The money I've saved on ice in the last 2 years has purchased (conservatively) 2K rounds of .223 and 1K rounds of 7.62 match. Honesty I could care less what it costs or whether its grizzly-proof. If ANY cooler performs like this you should buy it.
