Damn - here I was, shooting my centerfire rifles, feeling good about myself, doing ok as far as target shooting went, and generally having a great time. I shoot .308 and .260 in bolt, as well as .223 - not bad - built my own, reload my own, great accuracy - everything was fine, then I stumbled on to this stupid rimfire forum.
What the hell I'm thinking, how tough can this stuff be. 22's - you gotta be kidding me - it's kid stuff. So I start reading, and reading, a little more reading. My interest starts to perk up. Why not - I'll give it a try again. Hell, what's the worse I could do? Knock my eye out? It's such a wimpy little round.
I break out my Savage Mark II, it never shot well in the first place so it dodn't see much daylight. Did I mention I did some reading? Well, I read some more, stripped it all down, reworked it top to bottom, picked up some ammo - lots of ammo actually, and started relearning how to shoot all over again.
You people ruined it for me. I have there nice spiffy bolt guns, custom built myself, and now they're growing pale for lack of sunlight. I have to take them out of the safe every once in a while just to show them I still care, but my 22lr has suddenly become my favorite.
I'm taking my shooting to a whole new level. different positions, working on technique, reading the wind. As the commercial says "I'm loving it!". My 22lr shooting has improved my CF long range skills tremendously - and for a fraction of the cost! (and I reload and cast my own too!).
Thanks for a great forum and some great advice. My CF rifles however are trying to shut this rimfire forum down though!
