Re: You have been given $3000. What do you buy?

I live in an apt, but that would def be cool. would love to learn that stuff, but would need to be an apprentice somewhere before I think. I do want to buy that mini lathe harbor freight has to make small things though. practive on small barrels maybe. or actions etc.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun - at first. Then you come to the realization that you won't get the best accuracy with $3 a round ball ammo. You can shoot A-Max Match for double that, or sink another grand into a decent reloading setup.
You'll get tired of hauling all that heavy gear to the range (if you can find one that lets you shoot it).
Then there's the hours of cleaning, buying Hoppes No. 9 in quart bottles, and don't forget an electric toothbrush for the muzzle break.
Looking back, I wish I would have skipped the .50 and got an AW several years ago.
</div></div>
hmm. interesting note, but how often you shot it? I'm thinking more of a safe queen here with maybe 20-30 rounds through it a year. will see the range couple times and that's it.

good thing is that these things hold their value VERY well!
if I get a AR50 for 2200, I could sell it fairly quick for that same price

You might have to pimp yourself out a little to make up the difference, but it would be worth it. </div></div>
interesting! no fun without full auto though.

Unlike hookers and blow, you'll have something to show for it. </div></div>
meh... not feeling that. I already have a custom bolt gun with a HDMR on it that does 1/4 moa.

This right here! The .50 cal is nice until you have to purchase ammo to shoot the damn thing. The Desert Eagle .50 is cool but too damn big for a CCW. </div></div>
yes, and I doubt i'll ever ccw the deagle. LOL

I'd say make the impulse buy AFTER you have the more practical gear you've been wanting. I think I'd rather have a 308 AR I shoot a lot over something that looks cool, is big and expensive to shoot.
</div></div>
I know what you mean. but I have a separate funds to get the practical stuff. I can see saving for practical things, but I don't see saving for something just for the fun of it.
