I haven't started reloading yet. I'm working through some books at the moment and will move on after i'm comfortable with the basics. However, i'm really struggling to visualize everything and i've looked at a few you tube videos and i'm not sure if i'm learning good technique and theory. One guy i watched looked sloppy and actually called most items by a wrong name. I wouldn't trust him to load a shopping trolley let alone ammo.

Has anyone come across some respectable, reliable and informative clips they would recommend ? I guess i'm asking if there is a reloading equiv of Sniper's Hide Online training ? Failing that, is there a decent dvd that uses current reloading products/theory ? Thx

TJ,

Welcome to reloading!

Recommend you obtain a copy of the RCBS DVD that covers the basics of reloading. The DVD is professionally produced and stresses the importance of SAFETY for reloading. Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas certainly carries the DVD.

Know what you mean. Wouldn't trust most of the reloading videos you see online. Not because they're all wrong ~ but one is not sure of the exact equipment setup and if any 'shortcuts' were taken.

Also, would strongly encourage you to meet with some guys who already handload. They'll be your best source to step you through the correct and safe protocol, provide you solid guidance, and hopefully answer your questions.

Do you have access to anyone in your area who handloads? Perhaps someone on SH from your area can assist you.

Yes I will hook-up with a reloader in the new year and he'll take me through it in more detail. I will also attend a 1-day reloading course before this and figured if i read the books/watch the dvds i'll give myself the best chance of learning quickly and safely.

TJ.

everyone has those first time "nerves" about reloading and especially pulling the trigger on that first ever reload.

Instead of explaining more things to you, I give you the following advice

- You can never be too cautious
- Read the manuals and if something does not appear clear read it again or ask one of us on here, you know your welcome to PM me
- Always wear shooting glasses when shooting reloads
- Take heed of the do's and dont's

You have a wealth on information and friends available to you, just a click away... something the old timers never had readily available and they managed to do it with success regardless.

If you have a question shoot it my way and Il be happy to share my thoughts with you.

Thanks as always. I will be in touch in the new year when i start so i'll save me q's for then. I'm just trying to digest as much quality info as I can right now.

Re: You tube reloading clips for the novice

Yea youtube is handy but a lot of fools on the net think they are experts just because they discovered the upload button on there or post button on thread sites.. Be safe and go with the pros and buy a quality RCBS or other big name company reloading video..

Always use the internet as a reference.. For all you know the guy on the other side of that post is just as new as you and just heard some hear say and is just telling you...

The motto dont always believe what you read or see on the internet.. You'll learn that very fast on gun threads.. Most the time if it doesnt sound right or you have some doubt about it.. chances are its probably wrong..

So always use the internet as a reference than a guide. Took me a while to figure that out.

Being the person who can learn better by watching then reading, I watched the Tubb video on how to reload. Who else better to learn from! Also read the Sierra manual as well. As with most things out there, there is more then one way to do things and reloading is no different.
